Which bearnings for gearbox rebuild?

My gearbox is whining a bit too now, is it not worth just buying an ek9 box for it? plus you get the lsd, or would a vti not be powerful enough to need it?
im kinda putting off doing it at the moment as either way its not cheap

Got mine stripped and new bearings fitted. Trying to get it built back up but the snap ring won't go onto the bearing at the top. Anyone got any tips on getting the shaft up higher to get the snap ring into the groove?

FYI, was in Honda today and all of those needle type bearings are about 20 quid each, oooocha

You stripped your box to have a look at the condition of the selectors etc?

Lucky for me the synchro hubs and selector forks are in good condition, however the reverse selector has some notches out it and another part of the main selector assembly is a little bent

Overall it's costing me another £290 for the remaining parts, so including the order from synchrotech and the import duty, grand total for a gearbox build is £690 which includes

-ALL oem bearings apart from diff bearings
-diff to FD bolts (10)
-synchrotech carbon lined synchros, full 1-5 set
-driveshaft hub nuts
-lower ball joint split pins
-reverse selector assembly
-part of the main selector assembly
-oem seal kit
-couple other odd bits

No labour as i'm doing all the work myself, however it gives you a good idea of price for a gearbox build, the only bearings i am reusing are the diff bearings, my Spoon diff out the other box has only done 5k miles from new including the bearings so these will be ok

I've not stripped it yet, I use the car daily so need as little downtime as possible. That price is pretty good for all that actually.

Let me know how you get on with the DIY rebuild, I'll be doing the same when I get round to it!

Mine already has a Quaife fitted, and yes the VTi can make full use of it! :))

It's all done now

tbh the main and counter shafts are a piece of piss to strip and rebuild, you DO need a fancy bearing puller to remove the countershaft bearing from the casing otherwise you need a new plastic oil guide as you destroy it removing the bearing.......

I reused the spring washer and normal washer between the mainshaft and bearing, no issues there, very easy to measure the clearance of the diff once assembled also

Good luck :)

Put a few bolts in so cover can't come off and tip the box over should snap into place, if it doesn't then you have something not installed right on most likely the mainshaft.

id check ur assembly m8, if the top of the shaft doesnt protrude enough for you to get the snap clip back on i would be inclined to say that somethings not sat right on the shaft of maybe a shim is in the wrong place. (No offence like) lol
