:nice:happy to help,
btw, you may need to re search and chose your grade of oil carefully for running the engine in when you get the re build :nice:

Hey, I'm about to change my engine oil too and I asked a Honda mechanic what was the best oil to use and he said either Mobil 1 15W-50 or Redline 20W-50. Now I live in Trinidad, that's in the Caribbean where the climate gets real hot.
I looked at the specs rvm put up for recommended oil and the mechanic's recommendations do not match, Note: the previous owner always did his oil change at this mechanic, and thats about 4 years of oil change.

What do u guys think I should do?

i believe i read that rvm used 50 w oil in his dc2, he's in a hot climate also.
if its been fine for 4 yrs using what its been using then carry on.

So, after a lot of reading I have come to this conclusion for the UK climate:

5w/30 for everyday use and occassional track use

Or

5w/40 if doing a lot of trackdays.

I see a lot of people advise not to go fully synthetic if the engine has been used with semi synthetic but read this is a myth?

For my UK VTEC drivers: The climate in the UK is similiar to Japan.

On my DC2 which has now arrived at 130,000 km, I have been using 5W40 for the past 3 years since I bought the car at 80,000 km. I have had no major oil losses (I also checked my compression and power, very healthy) and the engine actually runs very smoothly. I go to the track about 3 to 4 times a year and do frequent runs on the mountain roads, sometimes being a little competitive. No problems here either.

That said, I do make it a point to change my oil between 4500 km - 5000 km or every 3 - 4 months depending on how I have been using the car. This keeps the oil fresh and prevents it from breaking down too much.

When I first got the car I followed the manual and put it 5W30 and while I found that the engine was a little more rev happy, it also consumed oil at a steady pace which is normal and in fat healthy for B series VTEC engine. (depending on the smell) Switching to 5W40 didn't actually make that much difference to power but I noticed a reduction in roughness of the sound. The B18C seemed most happy with this grade and even gave me good return in petrol mileage.

Basically I chose this grade because in Japan, Yokohama where I live it gets to 36 deg C in the summer and lowest -3 deg C up on Hakone mountain where I run in the winter.

My civic is equipped with B16A2,the climate in my contry is..let`s say -15 in the winter and it goes +32 in the summer. So is it problem to use the same engine oil that HONDA reccommends for B16B? Because my mechanic told me to use 10w40(semi synt)...what do you think?

Guy from OpieOils, recommended 5w/40 Fully Sythetic oil for my EM1 (B16a2) and just said to just flush out the existing oil and fill witht he synthetic stuff.

Yeap, the guy from OpieOils told me the same...but here we don`t care about the "Speed Limit" if you understand me,i mean i am vtecing a lot(it`s not like on the track but..) during the day,so 5w40 fully it seams to be a bit thin, cause now i am using
0w30 fully OEM,and the engine is burning the oil!Thats why i think to buy 10w40 probably OEM..

OK I was using Total 9000 5w40 it was alright but recently feeling like trying new oil so I change to Valvoline VR1 10w40 the engine feels a lot smoother under accerleration and Vtec kick in feels a lot quicker, felt the Revs free up a bit as well, give it a try see if you'll like it. next on the list of oil to try is Motul V300 5w40 anyone has any feed back on it ??

Mates, has anyone heard of Castrol Magnatec 5w30 c3[0], My engine (b16b) is a bit used since its blowing a poof of blue smoke on high revs :nono:, what oil am I recommended to use, a fully synthetic, a semi-synthetic, 5w30 or 0w30.

The weather here goes not below 10C nor above 30C.

Thanks in advance
Enrique

No one?
Nadie?

what would you suggest for my car, it only gets used at the track days and all it sees is 5-9k rpm all day long. I have been using 10-40 semi, but recently i have been checking my oil temps and they seem to be quite high. would it be ok if i start using silkolene 10-50 or edge 10-60?
thanks
