The reason the oil is getting used quickly is likely to be because it's mineral based. If you switched to a full synthetic, the oil consumption should drop. As your car is modified, you really should be looking at a full synthetic rather than a semi synthetic
I'd look at one of the ester based 5w-40s or 10w-40s, like the Fuchs Pro S, Millers CFS, Redline, Gulf Competition or Motul 300v. The Gulf is a bargain at the moment, but an offer is starting on the Fuchs in a couple of days (buy 5L, get a litre free)
5w-40 engine oil | 5w40 oil
10w-40 car engine oil | 10w40 oil

Ok thanks for the reply, will have a look at those. I presume its fine to switch from a semi-synth oil to these ester based oils?
Unfortunately it's really trial and error until you find something that works for you. 5w-50 will give better cold protection, but a lot of people are convinced that a 10w-40 doesn't burn off as quickly as a 5w-40, even though they are the same viscosity when hot. Up to you, both are top quality oils.

Im now running the Gulf Ester Synthetic 10w-40 Oil. Quick delivery from Opie, the oil itself im very happy with, not getting smoking issues like I was before which I suspected was down to the previous oil I used, also doesn't appear to burn it much either
are out there fake oils ?
like a replica of motul 300v or ams oil etc ??
recently my local oil supplier told me about fake oil of well known brands in the market !!
