If you know it is a cat d but not what damage is would you shell out if visually it looks ok? I believe it's a front end and it now has a facelift front end.

Cat d is determined as minor repairable but not economic to repair due to salvage cost, recovery or damage.

Car is quite a bit cheaper.... Very low miles

If the seller has some info on who carried out the work or you ask to take it to a garage/AA call out inspection you can have yourself a bargin. I wouldn't rule it out getting one.

Front end is much more replaceable than the rear and far easier to inspect. Really depends what car you're talking about too. Outside inspection never really reveals much but the worst of bodged repairs so don't expect to tell the extent of the repairs from the exterior panels, I've seen shells that look very good on the outside but are full of repairs on the inside that you wouldn't guess at.

I take it it's an ep3 if so just get it inspected if it's what you want. As getting insurance for the car is it cheaper or not?

If you wanted to, PM me the reg of it and I can tell you the insurer that wrote it off.

You can then give them a call with the claim reference number and ask for a copy of the estimate and or images of the car in its damaged state.

That may help you in making your decision, Let me know.

Generally speaking...if I had a lot of the details I would...lotsa bargains to be had ;) my 9 is a cat d after getting written off 2 years ago

Thanks everyone for the input

i am always wary of buying any wtie offs however nowadays the **** cars get written off for is insane, a light scratch or a ding haha as long as the work has been done in a qualified bodyshop or garage and is of high standards go for it ian

Well welll well Zurich are a flipping nightmare and won't disclose any information and guess what all foreign! The answer i'm getting Computer says no!

Waste of my time. All i want to know is why they as an insurance company chose to write it off. USELESS! :slap:

Zurich I wouldn't expect anything less from them:nono:

To answer your question though I would buy a cat D if the price was right, as said above cars get wrote of for nothing these days! :(

Just make sure you have a GOOD look around the car before you buy!:secret:

One helpful young lady managed to tell me that it was the front pass side that was damaged. So I assume wing headlight bumper and bonnet. Maybe slam panel damage and possible suspension. Will look closely when I view it. All his would explain the facelift front end so I suspect not done by a particular garage as they wouldn't modify only replace like for like... Still worth a look as its a very good price with a few nicetys also.

as long as it repaired right there is nothing wrong in buying a cat c or cat d

id defo buy a cat d etc if it was repaired right, all depends on the repair and how it drives, there not many ek9's,dc2's out there that havnt seen filler 2bh

Defo would buy a Cat D but only haggle is you'll struggle to sell it when your done with it

Track car when i'm done with it! lol

Its going to be our daily and it will rack the miles up so i don't think it will bother me to much.

If you not bothered in making your money back once you are done with it and you just want to track it etc I'd buy it mate personally!

Nothing wrong with a cat d could be anythink from lost keys to a very minor prang. If the cars old then it will be very very minor
