3 Points and a £60 Fine!

take the points mate,if this is your first 3 points as said your premium should stay the same, been there before...:blabla:

not too many people in the UK with a "clean sheet"so the insurance companys sort of turn a blind eye to the first 3 points.

also the amount of fixed speed cameras in mainland UK is a joke!!!
just there to reel the £££££ in!!!

its unlikely you'll win the case on a sympathy vote, I'd go with the others and say take the 3 points and the £60 fine, I got the same from the insurance companies saying that everyone has an SP30...you don't want 6 points, court fees and more fines, not worth it IMO + they'll disappear in 3 years, it'll go by in no time

Did you ask if the gun had a calibration recently? Did he produce the calibration sheets? If not, they are good arguing points within an appeal. Also, if you do; stick to your story about your mate, you will more than likely get off with hermitigated circumstances, my dad has four times now through appeals!

police vs you = bad news man, you can have the best excuse in the world but at the end of the day they'll look at what they have on paper and it will say 46mph in a 30. If the police are anything down there like they are up here you won't have a leg to stand on sadly :((

just take the points and if the insurance dont ask if u have any dont tell them :) 3 of mates have done this for about 2 years now . never had a problem . if worst comes to worst you say you forgot to mention it as you wernt asked when renewing

That will not hold up in court. You HAVE to tell your insurance company as soon as you have points put on your license.

Kaks I would just accept the fine and 3 points. As said it a SP30 won't make much difference to your insurance. The 3 years will fly by fast.

As for the gun being faulty or inaccurate this is rare as they check the guns before they are issued on their shift.

Not always mate, trust me, they don't. It's ALWAYS worth asking, no matter what speed they've caught you doing...

Well this is what I was told by 2 of my mates who are police officers.

Either way why run the risk of being caught, just don't speed.

Hi EK9'ers,

Got into a little mess with the 'POLICE' yesterday night. Went to cinema, and then went for a little drive across town. I normally don't drive HARD unless if its on the way to work on dual-carriageways or long bendy national speed limit or 50+ roads.

But, i got caught out hard last night. It is a main road en route to the motorway, but i got caught by the speed gun doing 46mph in a 30. Police pulled me over, asked all the questions, if i had insurance, bla dey bla. They gave me a producer, i have to produce my insurance documents, m.o.t and driving license to the police station in the next 7 days (6 days now).

My mate who is a Paraplegic was with me, and i mentioned to the cop i had to go home to pick up his tablets because its urgent. He wasn't listening at all :(

I'm kind of stuck of whether to appeal or pay up and take the points.

Thing is if i take the points and penalty's, my insurance is going to be sky high as renewal is coming up and i am paying a whopping £1700 ish at the moment, and at the moment my financial status ain't too great.

Man it puts me on the spot of thinking of selling up :(

What you reckon guys?  :angry2: :((

How can you appeal?
Its not like you wernt speeding.

Just going to have to man up and take the fine and points.
Sounds harsh but its whats going to happen, take it to court you wont win imo

Could try the old asking if the gun is calebrated.

kaks i had 6 points when i first got the ek9 it does'nt effect the insurance, now an accident does! id pay the fine and accept the points

Well I'm sure you abide by the law 110%

Thanks for the INPUT guys ;)

Off to the station after work tomorrow to pay the fine and get the points :)

Lol, of course they will tell you that... I'm only saying because it's in my experience that they don't always have them calibrated. I've also been told by local traffic (as we work with them quite a bit) that they are very unreliable. They tested an un-calibrated one by pointing it at a brick wall and got a reading of 36MPH!
