3 Points and a £60 Fine!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but unless you have a fixed penalty notice, which is a pinkish coloured slip, your not going to the police station to receive 3 points and a £60 fine. Did the traffic officer say to you that he was going to have to report you to the pf?

Good choice mate!

The calibration is done yearly and is stamped on the gun so if you ask at the roadside they will show you if they are decent enough,

As to the check every shift this has to be done, even if the officers dont do it if they both say they did it then thats sufficient, they have a piece of metal that they hit off a hard surface making a ping noise, point the gun at it and it will read either 50 or 60, if not then the gun will (or should) be sent for repair

not true . like i sed if no1 asks no1 has to no . 1 of the mates has crashed his car tiwce . once his fault . other was another persons fault . and never has he been asked about his points .

dont think i would take the chance to be honist but iv never been in your situation . good luck anyway the police are just arseholes :nice: in my opinion .

It is true. Used to work as an underwriter and had experience through in the claims dept and it was a requirement of the claims process that MOT, insurance certificate and driving licence copies were taken for any claims. It's becoming more and more common as insurers want any reason at all to avoid paying out money and anything undeclared; mods, points, over annual stated mileage and even something stupid like saying the car is yours and it's your wifes (registered owner as opposed to legal owner) they can refuse cover and leave you to pay any costs.
You're ALWAYS asked at renewal, either in the paperwork or over the phone if there have been any changes to the policy from the last renewal.

Not worth it to save a few quid IMO.

Thread revival

I didnt get the points, got offered a speeding awareness course :D :) :nice:

Git, I got done at 48mph in a 30 and was told you only get the option of the course if you are within 10%+2mph. :(

Great news! :win: Do you have to pay a fine or do you just have to attend the course?

I have already paid the £60.

But have paid the £90 for the course, if i pass the course (heard its simple), i get refunded the £60

I was surprised. :wow:

If they were using the LTi 20-20 device(gun),
They should also have a video, ask to see it.

Because speed guns - unlike fixed speed cameras - are prone to move in the hand of the operator, strict rules are meant to be followed to prevent inaccurate readings.
The officer is supposed to target only vehicles he suspects are over the limit, training the device's laser beam on the numberplate for a few seconds.

If the video shows that the police man is targeting every single vehicle thats going past, you will be let off.

Also the judge chucking the case out the window because the police did not turn up is not a rare occurrence, it happens quite alot. I go to court quite alot because im studying law, and i wouldn't say its a common occurrence but i would say that probably 4 in every 10 cases the police man does not turn up.
