Hey guys , has anyone experienced a b16b gearbox fitted to a b18c engine.... if so can you tell me if the gear ratios become shorter and would it eventually destroy the gearbox since the engine would be producing more torque than the original b16b engine...

I currently have this setup, pretty sure the gear ratio's are shorter on the SC4 box, maybe someone could confirm this for me, as for 'destroying' the gearbox... That ain't gonna happen, think about people running big power and boosted setups on the standard box.

Hope that helps,

Dale.

Ye you are right mate.... i just wanted some opinions before i go ahead with it... thanks for the quick response tho..

Cheers!

The gearing is NOT shorter on the S4C, the first 3 are actually longer then the S80.

As for destroying the box, absolutely no. Your looking at 10-20lbs torque more. Thats pretty insignificant. Im running this set up and is a nice box for the B18C. Good all rounder with lots of grip even in 1st gear as oppose to the S80 which like to spin 1st/2nd a fair amount.

ok cool but how do i know which b16b box is the S4C and the S80... i have a year 2000 civic ek9

No worries :) not seen many people with the SC4 box on the B18, Personnaly I plan to stick with mine as it's just been rebuilt and I have a mugen diff hiding in there :D

Ah was told the ratio's were shorter but obviously not lol

Dale.

B to the B, lol
your fine to bolt it up, it will run fine with either trans. You've got to love b Honda engines.

lol ye the engines are amazing man... so reliable ... but no one answered my question tho lool.... how can i tell the difference between the S4C and the S80?

...oops.

did you look for the factory stamp [S4C or S80] on the trans housing? Hard to miss.

You can see it looking from the top of the engine, toward the trans housing. Close to the speed sensor; VSS.

i'm going back to a s4c box for my b18 as it feels more gradual through the gears. the s80 box has quite a jump from 3rd to 4th.
that said the s80 box is amazing for autotesting as 1,2 and 3 are so close

in case your still looking for the ID location.

Like Dale, i also run a S4C box on a B18C with a Mugen Diff, i am running 240BHP and 160lb/ft no probs at all.

98 Spec S80 with 96 4th and 5th gears

or

96 S80/S4C with aftermarket 4.785 FD is IMO the perfect b series box setup.

Would you mind pm'ing me your engine spec urban boy, would be nice to see a setup similar to mine as that's the figure I'm aiming for over the winter. :)

Cheers

Dale.

if urbanboy is who i think he is, his spec is simply

'perrymoo built'

Dale i will PM you some details, although the geeky stuff i don't know.

Yes my build is 'Perrymoo' which is B18C5, trick headwork, his design cam gear and cams, also his Manifold, Race cat. Am running ' Power FC' EMS with wide band. Attention to detail is second to none. Lots of Pez hours in design, build, and some crazy Mapping sessions. The car is very Angry, the S4C box suits the engine nicely, Vtec is 6600rpm, but pulls hard way before that, nice sweet spot at 5k, no revshift on this just honest power, i consider myself a capable driver, and i can scare myself:shocked:

If your serious about a proper Endurance engine speak to 'Perrymoo'

I have owned the car from new (98) i always get comments like ' it's still not a 9':) love it

Anyway this is not about my car, so back on topic
