B16b or b20

Any reason why it has to be kept a B16b?

You could stroke it to a 1,8 using Crank, con-rods, pistons are optional, and ecu, however this would effectivly make it a 1.8.

Another possibility, could be to sleeve your current block to a higher capacity. Like Donzo said, its Expensive.. :nice:

Id just go for the b20vtec mate. I went from b16a to b18cr and wish i had gone b20.

Its all down to where you want your power.

b16b of my friend:
stock block
head: skunk2 stage2 cams, dual valve springs and Ti retainers, valves
others: noname intake, exhaust SRS 55mm, tuned hondata s300
dyno result: 214,9 hp
:ek9:

i had a stock b20 bottom end run 197.2bhp on a dyno dynamics.....
this particular dyno reads very low, modded tegRs read 175bhp.
i reckon i would have broke 220+ never got a chance for a proper run on a reputable dyno as she went pop

b16b is the best option without turbo

What are you basing this on? apart from a b16a2 a unstrocked b16b is probably the worst choice for an NA build :angry2:

no replacement for displacement, if your building an NA motor then use a b18 or b20. To make anywhere near the same torque, your going to have to spin the b16b to ridicolous RPMS.

I mean the B16B head, which for me is the best to assemble without turbo, the block is another matter, as there are many options to choose from b20, b18 maybe I would choose
the b18 but is my opinion. The b20b is a good option to, by the displacement and the torque
but what I said there are many choices, which for me is the best of these engines

He is clearly talking about bottom ends though.

Its not like anyone is going to put a b20 head on a b16b block haha.

All depends on your budget and what you want from the engine really.

Yea a k20 is the ultimate NA base but would cost like at the least 4 times the amount of a B20 vtec build. And you dont exactly get 4 times the engine. jus something a bit better and more reliable as a unit. BUT the same performance is still achievable with a b20v still without spending as much.

A good b20 build isnt cheap either though.

Bottom end - 500
conversion kit - 200
pistons - 600
rods - 350 ish
2.5 exhaust and good exhaust mani - 500 ish
ecu mapping - 500 ish
labour.

Have seen standard bottom ended B20v give around 220hp with 260lb with jus a type R head and std manifolds.

If you already have a type R head and half decent exhaust as most already have. It shouldnt really cost much more than 1500-2000 to give you that.
Plus if you spent the rest it would cost to do a k20 swap i.e like another 3k im sure you could get that b20v up to 240hp 170lb.

I know a k20 is much better base but id be happy with 220hp and 160lb. But its down to what you really want.

im going b20b T :) i cant wait to play around with the torque man b20's have alot to play with espically being 2.0 all you need are minor replacement parts and the b20 hold up very well .

I'm going b20b as well got Daz from dnr his old race engine is going in my 9 looking around 250bhp with 170ft pound of talk when it's complete around march can't wait! Any advice on what type of header for the b20b?

if your going n/a tri y big tube all the way bro

i made mine type r b18c head skunk 2 tuner stage 3 wiseco 12.5 pistones and scat rods other googies as well and bro i got to tell you never been happier, when i had my b18c r before it dye ;( it was not close to the power that i get now.

225whp and 163 of torque on 93 daily drive if we use vp can get better number will get a second chip for tuning with vp later and i still have my a/c :)

b20 vtec all the way

There nice figues there! I will tell u what the spec is so far after I finish work today cuz it's to much to remember, what website would u always go by to get a decent header for the b20?

cant wait to get mine, im going to get a b20b but anyone out there built a b20z with the figures?? havent seen a b20z block for sale so im guessing there rare?
