Hi there,

What's a suitable rad / fan setup for my 450 bhp EK9? I'm using AFI ramhorn and full race back door intercooler so would need to retain a 1/2 size radiator. I'm looking for guys with turbo setup/experience.

Thanks in advance!

had a mate with an eg running same power and he ran one of the cheap ebay radiators and an oem fan. think he ran an aftermarket fan switch so it cut in at lower temps though.
only time temps picked up was on top speed runs

I'm running a half length Koyo rad with a buddyclub fan switch on a B18 running 220bhp. It runs fine and the fan kicks in to keep it cool on a hard run.

Mishimoto is also a great option, assuming you'll not be doing a 24 lap circuit racing hehe :D

I'm running a koyo (full width though) radiator, spal 11" slim fan held on with Pacet quickmounts. New oem thermostat/fan switch

Quality of the radiator and fan are really good! Koyo/Mishimoto seem to be the best about without spending daft money, worth going for a decent fan too, the motors on cheap ones are known to burn out pretty quick :nice:

im running a oem size alloy mishimoto rad with mishimoto slim line fan . cant fault it in the slightest and fitment is spot on

If you've spent that much money on your turbo setup, why skimp on cooling?

The best cooling is likely custom for your application. You can recess a full width radiator into the rad support cavity by removing the central vertical bar.

The benefit is obvious in that it DOUBLES your cooling capacity but also when done properly, it will seal a lot better around the edges of the radiator to maximize efficiency.

This mod is obviously not for everybody, but I just find it a bit odd to go all the way with power and not be able to use it consistently/reliably because of potential cooling issues.

Good point. Thanks for the advise, I will look into it. It would be nice if there was a drive-in-drive-out custom radiator fabrication shop near me!

have a look on honda-tech.com

there is a thread on there dedicated to custom engine bays, have noticed there is some US companies doing off the shelf radiators similar to as mentioned by RagingAngel :nice:

though I don't use mine on trackdays, the OEM one is enough to have my engine run 90 degree celcius on heavy traffic situations and occasional short bursts/drag racing type of things. amb. temp here in Philippines is ranges from 27 to 30 something degree celcius.

Full size rad, with intercooler out front (see attachment). Currently fitted to my EK9 race car. Does your engine run an external oil cooler? If yes, you can maximise the efficiency of the radiator further by removing the water to oil cooler that runs along the back of the block (pic attached also). Means that all cooling of the oil is done externally. For the race car though it doesn't need a fan as it doesn't sit idling at all.

RagingAngel is correct, when using a full size rad the air is forced through the radiator rather than around it (in the case of half size rads). Much better for your application.
