Camshafts - which ones to go for?

Well personally i hate these threads with people asking what parts to go for, but it is doing my head in researching camshafts :nono:

This is not to fit to my B16B, i've sourced an integra block and head so will be slowly building up a new engine for my car

I would like to settle on what cams i will go for first since as i see it, the rest of the engine is built around the cams to some degree (headwork and cr of pistons etc)

Looking on opinions to the following cams i've narrowed it down too, the goal for the engine is to have good mid to top end power/torque, with the short gears my car doesn't see less than 6k on a spirited run / on track. Looking for a good reliable setup which will yield close to 200WHP (yes i know it comes down to tuning and overall setup, but cams play a big part)

-Buddyclub spec IV
-Brian Crower stage 2
-Toda spec C (if someone can find me a set that doesn't cost the earth)

Any advice / input would be great, skunk 2 cams are not an option as i've not heard great feedback from very reliable sources

Thanks

Toda C's are a stage 3 cam.
The buddylclubs and crowers that youve mentioned are stage 2.

If your going for very high compression then the toda's are what you want, but if your only going for a mild increase in compression then i would go with either of the other two.

Toda B if not jumping compression much Toda C if you are. Your gona need to ditch that exhaust system mind and intake.

Ever thought of using Cat Cams? If you don't like the profiles they offer you can spec custom profiles.
Failing that I'd give Endyn Bump Sticks a looking at.

Ill have to agree with that guy :)
TypeR ones are an awesome piece of kit.

I checked these out, only midly hotter than stock on paper but supposedly have a high ramp angle so are actually open wider for longer without needing massive compression.

Email them and see what they say. You can't always judge a cam by the lift & duration numbers.

ahh steven i thought you always said you was always going to stay with b16b as its how honda intended it to be :p

like you said ive only heard horror stories from skunk 2 cams.

what is it your trying to get out of the cams ?

Longer lift and duration than standard ones :p

Always wanted to build an engine and know with the abuse the B16B takes it's not going to last forever

A forged high comp B18 with cams will certainly pull a bit better than a standard B16B :nice:

Cheers for the input guys, so hard to judge by lift and duration numbers, hence why i was posting up looking for some input!

this is very true

when i was looking into cams buddy club brian crower and toda did come up the best but they have already been said

I wouldn't recommend Brian Crower stage 2's, mapped a 12.0cr b18c recently with these and wasn't all that impressed with how they performed. I know some people have reservations about Skunk2 cams but my experience has only been good with them so I think there worth a look.

what about kelford cams if you herd off them js enginering built a 2.2 na eg drag car that revd to 14.000rpm and running 440bhp

Nothing in the Kelford range that looks that great on paper...........

Had contacted Blueprint racing about a set of their stage 2 cams, they look really nice and should have stock in a couple weeks, as much as some todas would be great, at £850+vat i don't think so :wow:
