Changing wheel studs??? How??

Basically as above really. I need to look at extended wheel studs do I can run a 6mm spacer. Does anyone have any idea how to replace them??? I had a look at the front hubs today and couldn't figure it out :-(
Any help as usual would be great.
 
You will need to replace your wheel bearing while at it. The hub spigot/face will need pressing out of the bearing while its in the hub assy, will take the outside inner bearing race with it, pulling the bearing appart breaking it in the process. Also you will need to remove the race from the spigot hub. Can be tricky, either Heat or cutting disc will most likely be needed. Can be chissled off but not always. Some people have re-used the bearings and just pressed them back together but Its really not advisable.

I have myself a complete spare set of hubs so I can build a whole setup while re-bushing. Is always the easiest way.

Rears are prity simple as the hub and bearing are one piece and can just be unbolted.

I have managed to change all of mine before without removing the hub. (front) Take calipers, disc and backing plate off. One good hard crack on the old stud and it will pop out. To fit the new ones you will have to shave a bit off the head so it will fit past the hub carrier.
When you tighten the wheel nuts it will pull new stuts into the flange.

What studs were you using Dunx?

Iv got ARP extended ones.
 
I think they were the studs from Rally Design but might be wrong.

Oh right nice one, I think I'll try dunx idea first, it seems simpler, then if that doesn't work looks like the hubs will be coming apart.
Kieran- where did you get you extended bolts from, that what I would like??
 
Ebay US.

You can get them from the odd UK seller on Ebay but they are more expensive.

Got mine around £65 for 4 sets of 5 studs.

ARP's seem to be the best choice. Plenty of lenght and quality fitment. Seen a few people have problems with different brands. But non with ARP's yet.

Some on US Ebay are quite expensive but you can find the odd deal for a full set of 20 for around £60-70 delivered, where as most UK suppliers are after around £20 for just a set of 4.
 
I got my ARP ones from Co-ordsport. On they're website it's £20 inc VAT and free delivery if you buy more than one set of 5.

I know it's a bit more expensive than buying from the US Ebay but you get them quicker and without the chance of getting hit with import duty.

I also have a discount code for 5% off from co-ordsport, hit me with a pm if you want it. I'm sure it will still work.
 
I done the same as dunks on his wheel studs it worked. Could do with a spot of weld on the back , but does work without u can get yr studs anywhere I think rally design was cheapish .

Will have to give that method a go keeping the hub in place. Always thought you needed to separate the hub. Although the ARP ones do have the extra tip on the end aswell, may make it more difficult.

Never been a fan of spot welding the back, always worried about creating a hot spot on the disc face warping it a little. Maybe causing brake vibrations in the future. May just be me being paranoid though lol.
 
spot welding isn't required, it used to be required when people used ARP non honda specific studs as the spline on them was a ball hair too small - now ARP do honda specific ones you will be fine, never had an issue with mine although i fitted mine the proper way and fitted new wheel bearings on the front..........

i would change the front bearings and do it proper without grinding - if you are running long studs you are clearly wanting to run big spacers? bigger spacers will apply more load on the bearings, so having some fresh ones in is a good idea

Ok. Well I'm looking at running 6mm spacers, should be just enough to clear my brakes.
M12x1.5 or m12x2.85???
 
M12X2.85 is reffering to the stud length.

M12 is bolt thickness. X1.5 is the thread pitch (Honda).

So will be M12x1.5, 2.85 length.

i ran 10mm non hubcentric spacers no problem with loads of track use
