So... Decided to create a topic without any actual knowledge on what to do yet but here's the story:

So i had some issues with my 9 last weekend. Was rolling to a meet with a couple of friends and on the move from 5th to 4th gear my engine decided to die on me. Big hole in the block itself.

Will be keeping you up to date through here on how and what.

first plan is to take the engine out of the car and see what we can salvage and hope the head is fine. If that is the case it will be a long-term build to get a good-functioning B20 vtec. Shall post more pictures and such here once we know more...

this is the car when it was still functional :p

The original plan was to build the car more track-oriented so i'll probably push through with this plan and take my time whilst it's off the road.

Thanks for reading and on to a better future for the car :)

Such a shame dude, look forward to seeing what route you take.

haha i've heard that one before... i'm not a K guy to be honest. I like the rawness of the B series and in my personal opinion, it just looks better in an EK engine bay.

Took the day off upcoming wednesday to get the engine out of the car (or mostly at least..) and go from there so will be sure to take pictures of how and what.

I've got a spare block should you need it.
B18c, will need an overbore, or you could sleeve it if our wanting 2L?

Such a shame to see that happen to your engine,
Good luck with it hope the rebuild goes well

White and bronze, excellent combo. B20 ek9 is very cool.

Thanks Jesse for the offer. Will deffo keep it in mind!
thanks to you 689R and b16 mini for the kind words.

first update coming later this week. as a mate of mine has just said on whatsapp. It'll be back better and faster than ever bro. so that's what i'm going for :)

Sorry to hear about the engine :( ... better and faster, sure we all like the sound of that! Let us know what the plan is soon as :D

I'll post some pics up later but it all happened in cylinder 3. The block and head both gone.

Sorry about the engine :(

But good things will follow,k20 or b20 are great options, but I prefer the k20 route :)

So, yesterday me and a mate went to another mate where my 9 currently is sitting and went to take off the head and see what the damage is. The small hope that i could still use the head for a future build was quickly diminished when my mate used the sentence "there's metal in your intake.." haha, so after removing the head we found this...

guess you could say this decreases my chances of using anything from this engine :P. As it has become a build sooner then i expected it to be i decided to at least do what i wanted to do before getting it back on the street. Obviously i need to find (and build) a new engine. Still in the process of deciding for b18c or B20v at least i know that i will go all out on the car. Getting the seat i want, the steering wheel i want, emptying it as it sits for a while.

Next thing to do is get the engine fully out of the car and lay everything aside for future use (header and other bits i can still use).

I will keep you updated on the how and the what.

That is some serious damage there mate :(.

I like the whole 'not sure where I'm going with this' idea. Just kind of seeing what you want to do and heading in that direction then?

you know what it is.. It's my 2nd b16 that's gone. First time it happened i just had the car but still... so i KNOW i'm not going with a B16B again as i just wanna try something else. I am no K guy but if i get the right deal... who knows. But i've always wanted to try a B20 Vtec but the more i read about them the less reliable they get. So the basic choice would be a good B18 with some nice work on the block and / or head. It all depends on my financial situation and what comes on my path. Might be the car won't be running for another 3 years (which i'm NOT going for) but who knows.. I'm keepin my eyes opened for something nice!

Cant go wrong with going with the flow mate. Just see whats around when you have the money etc. Hopefully something comes around to get you back on the road though :)

cheers man. She'll be back.. eventually. In the mean time save up some cash cause the next time the car is drivable it will be nothing like the B16!

Go K. B series was nice a very long time ago, its just old now--outdated. Go K !

K is something that has crossed my mind and i do know it's worth it.. I'm just too much in doubt, specially with stuff like tranny and such..

It's been quiet here but haven't been near the car in a week. Some updates coming up. first get the engine out and see what we can still use for the next engine (if i stay B ;) ). Keep you guys posted.
