Finally got round to cleaning all the baked on dust off my alloys.

As the winter was very harsh they got in a bit of a state and I knew I needed some decent wheel cleaner. So I got hold of some Bilberry Wheel Cleaner which is safe on nearly all wheel types as it doesnt contain any acid :nice:

Anyway here are a few before and after shots for your enjoyment.

I am very pleased with the results :))

It done some job on the wheels. Did they take long to clean? How much was the wheel cleaner?

Oh I diluted it 1:1

So could make it weaker once the weather gets better and they don't get soo gunked up.

Make it last a fair bit longer too.

They cleaned up real good, will have to try some of that bilberry wheel cleaner :nice:

after you clean them with that stuff you should wax(meguire's tech wax) the rims, makes it so much easier to clean next time and 1 coat of wax does around 4 or 5 washes. tho i do take my wheels off every month or so and clean the inside of them to,bit more effort but imo worth it to them them mint

Already thought of that so I bought some PoorBoys Wheel Sealant when I got the wheel cleaner. :p

Not tried it yet tho as I ran out of light earlier! :)

Supposed to be very good.

Was thinking of taking them off for a monster clean when it's a bit warmer and dryer. Like you say tho it is a lot more effort!

humm, think i'll be getting some of that! keeping white wheels clean is a pain in the hoop! they look like new.

I was so surprised it worked this well and with such little effort.

Best 8 squid I've spent in ages!

Although my car looks funny at the moment with just really clean wheels and a weeks worth of filth on the rest of it! lol

Did you buy that from that website you linked? Also is this stuff strong? I got myself some Meguiars alloy wheel cleaner but there are some black stuff that still won't come off.

Yeah I did get it from there.

Must be quite strong but the idea is that you can dilute it all the way down to 1:10 or use it neat if your wheels are really grubby.

Is it the meguires hot wheels stuff? I found it pretty poor and it doesn't last that long either.

This is a million times better and should quite easily remove your spots. (Smells nice too) If the baked dust has been on there a long time say over 3 months I would use the Bilberry stuff neat at 1st and you will need to give it a little scrub after letting it soak for about 5 mins or so.

I used an old tooth brush to get into dimples on the paint.

Also the before pictures of my wheels was how they looked after I had cleaned them with a sponge and soap. The baked on stuff did not shift with this alone.

i use the auto glym wheel acid does the job but stings the eyes like fxxk lol i might try the stuff you used :)

if you cant get some of the marks off,i use a panel wipe called starchem or something similar to that name, itll take almost everything off.Or some meguire's paint cleaner helps to :)

if you are able to take the wheels off do it

then clean in behind them as well

stops the brake dusty water from spinning between the spokes

bilberry is very good stuff, I dilute mine loads and the wheels still come up just as good as using 2:1.

try a vikan wheel brush for getting behind the spokes Vikan - Wheel Brush
I use that along with an autoglym wheel brush, work well.

Yeah I did get it from there.

Yes, it is. Thanks for the info I will look into this :nice:

How long does 1 litre last you?

Good question but that was the 1st time I've ever used it so I couldn't tell you.

This is how much I used the other day.
I filled an empty spray bottle about half way, then topped it up with water and only used about a quarter for all four wheels and I wasn't shy with it.

It should last quite a while as I will dilute it down more as I use it.

Like Y3lo said "I dilute mine loads and the wheels still come up just as good as using 2:1"

So will go a long way. Much better value than the Meguires :)

A decent wheel brush is next on my list :D

Thanks for the info, are you cleaning it with a sponge at the moment then?

Just been using the sponge to clean off the fresh dirt and then applying the bilberry and using an old tooth brush to scrub the rest off.

Not as bad as it sounds tho as the bilberry makes it mega easy.
