well im wonderin how can u spot a b18c engine without the engine code
like codes on the engine other places an other things looking at a b18c JDM need help workin out how to spot out that it is the ryt one anyone helps thanks every much

i know its not much but i know that 98 spec JDM B18c come with the manifold heatsheild painted black as opposed to unpainted on the 96 version.

erm well if its still w/ its gearbox it will be an s80 box. other things like a s/s oem manifold and c/f plugcover. hard to tell tbh unless the b18c is on it

A B18C and B16B block is taller than a B16A

As the B16A block level (were it meets the head) is aligned about the same height as the top of the gearbox But on EK9 B16B and B18C's the block level should be about 5mm or there abouts higher than the top of the gearbox i think.

thanks for this lads mite help me a bit is there not a code on the head p773 or something
or does anyone else know wat bout a 97 b18c can u get them jdm

Correct me if I'm wrong but on the head I think above the manifold there is a P code. I couldnt tell you excatly the numbers but it deff starts with a P and it tells you the year also.

Type R engine has mark or printed B18C5 by the block and the cylinder head by the upper header would be printed with PR3-4. GSR - B18C - PR3 - 3. This how i spot if it is a type r or gsr for acura but on SIR {B16A,B16B}, Im not so sure. But i also heard that they hav similarities on parts..So there!, Hope it help you..

try measuring the stroke and check the inlet on the head for mild porting, will be obvious if you see it (will be shiny and smooth near the valve) as far as i'm aware though heads were not specificaly made for the type-r's they were selected from the other models to be ported so the code's will not help you. Could be wrong on that though

thanks guys for all the help im mine looking an i saw the pr3-3 code so this means its a type r thanks again :nice::bow:

Cylinder head is not the most accurate way of measuring if it's a B18C since the type R's use the same cylinder head as the B16, same head means same casting therefore same numbers........ B18C4 uses a slightly different head hence the numbering

As mentioned the most accurate way is to check the block height as B16B and B18C are taller, as a result their cambelt is longer so again could whip the cover off and measure the length of this.......
