Hi guys, recently got a phone call from my dad saying the pressure plate is away in the ITR. It's running 212bhp, spoon gears and a pretty vicious 1.5way LSD, he is looking to uprate the clutch as there's a trackday coming up in 3 weeks, clutch in it just feels like an OEM one, was looking at competition clutch's, the stage 2 one, any experience or recommendations?

Cheers
Kris

This could probably be moved into the Transmission section I've just realized.

Competition clutches are pretty good, the civic cup cars run them with no problems

To be honest an oem Honda type-r clutch is one of the most reliable and should handle 212bhp with ease. I've ran dc2 Honda clutch kits on all my track cars and they are perfect

OEM Ftw. Ive 8 trackdays on mine , plus 8000km road use and bite point etc is perfect.

~200bhp , spoon LSD , close gears.

Ive some for sale too :nice:

Cool, cheer's for the advice guys, particularly darragh, but he did want an uprated one specifically, I will mention the OEM to him, in his old teg he stuck an OEM one in too, Think he'll want a competition stage 1 or 2 to be honest, he would be a bit abusive lol. Anyone have any first hand experience? Reviews seem good :nice: Also Exedy stage 2, anyone have any experience with that?

No problem ! Either stage 2's are good I think , just be sure the flywheel is good to reuse or get it skimmed when fitting

I've fitted a good few Exedy stage 2 clutches to customer's cars and have always had great feedback on these clutches.

Cheers guys, Looked at some exedy reviews regarding the stage 1 and stage 2's, some mixed opinions, found the stage 2 CC clutches for £320.00 delivered which seemed decent to me and overall reviews seemed good, so got that ordered, Needs installed and bedded in before the next trackday on the 14th! He told me he didn't want another OEM clutch this time as it was the pressure plate which failed on him. Clutch wasn't slipping at all.

Some specs of the CC stage 2:

"An Organic clutch (Carbon Kevlar material) with a high performance alloy backing using an up rated pressure plate assembly to provide an 80% increase in torque capacity, yet smooth engagement and extended usage.

An ideal performance upgrade for fast road or track day use without sacrificing driveability or making pedal efforts uncomoftable for every day driving like some stage 2 'paddle clutch' alternatives.

The 2100 Stage 2 up rated clutch kit includes a high performance pressure plate, a torque uprated sprung disk with unique high resistance steel backed carbon Kevlar organic facings, release bearing and the correct alignment tool as seen in the picture below"

Personally I don't like the feel of CC clutches, pedal is too lite for my liking but that's just me.

From personal experience the competition clutch ones are rubbish,

I had a stage 2 (ceramatalic 5 blade plate) one on my dc2, it lasted until the engine was run in about 200 miles, and then while mapping the engine on the A3 the cover plate let go at about 8000 rpm, result destroyed starter motor & holed gearbox casing where the springs flailed around inside the bell housing.

Suppliers answer, never seen it before mate, must have been a dodgy one here's a new one, fitted to car, took for mapping session all seems ok.

300ish road miles everything still ok, enter first sprint event, 2 practice runs ok, 1st timed run dump clutch and bang no drive, pushed back to pits, go home.

Remove gearbox find cover plate has exploded again, that was October I'm still awaiting an answer from supplier, who keeps fobbing me off saying he is waiting for competition clutch to give him a replacement kit.

In the meantime I have fitted a used but good Oem cover to a AEM bladed plate and so far no problems plus as someone has already said the pedal feel is much better, previously the pedal was too light and feeble.

By the way engine is about 230hp, crower stage 2 cams, steel rods, JE high comp pistons, jenvey Itb's, MBE ecu, wasted spark ignition coil.

Sounds promising lol. Cheers for the info anyway, I will make sure he bed's it in properly to start with, most online reviews seem decent, thats why I decided on one! Time will tell

I use in my shop CC clutches and never had a problem.

On that kind of power you will be ok with a stage 1.5, i already have them installed in 240hp K20 and 220hp B20 and so far so good.

Good pedal feeling and no harsh driving.

The stage 1.5 is a very good compromise imo.

AP racing do a clutch kit that is very aggresive...would be a good think to have for a trackday.
depends on your prefrence though.

I think I'm going to be one of few to even have had this clutch, but I was running a Spoon clutch in my 213bhp B18c. No complaints whatsoever both on and off track, although traffic jams can be a little annoying.

OEM will do fine

the one in the car could be a cheapo spurious
