JDM EK9 Race car project nearing completion

Plus if you leave them lying around like that for long enough they can (but not always) start to sag. Even by a couple of thou is enough to hear the magic snap when you re-install them.

They would have to be lying around for a long time like that though.

Thanks mate ;)

Small updates, have ordered some new valve stem seals and flat topped valves for the head when it goes back together. My engine guy will be re-doing the valves seats to get a good seal, and then re-assembling the whole shebang. Once I get the head back I'll bolt it all up, get it going, and off to the dyno to get it tuned with the new bits!

Still don't have a pic of the new header - sorry!

In other news, my wife and I have just bought our first house! Exciting to be sure, but it means racing will take a bit of a back seat until we get sorted there, but the mortgage is 25% cheaper than the rent we're paying, so it won't be long until I'm back out there thrashing the car!

Just have to pack up the house and all my stuff in the shed (gonna be a mission) and get it there before I can even think about taking the car out again...

Will be having the new tuning done before we move though, so will at least be able to show you all the results ;)

Stay tuned (forgive the pun)

such an amazing build man, i wish i had the time / money to take mine to that sort of level!!! Muchos Respect!

Thanks Neil!

It's not over yet by a long shot, once I'm sorted in the new house (early August for pics - sorry Blinx) I shall be doing a bit of hybrid nonsense in the quest for better castor and weight saving, not to mention finally ripping the wiring out and re-doing the engine bay.

The head should be back by next weekend (had a hiccup with postage as we've just had a public holiday) so will have some nice pics of the shiny new valves (or not so shiny new valves) and the porting job that my engine guy is doing. His work is truly awesome!

Back soon!

Told you I'd be back ;)

Got my head back last night, so got cracking on some pics:

With new flat valves installed, and cleaned up nice and shiny:

Exhaust port:

Beginning of intake port:

And right inside:

I was a bit dumb and in hindsight should have taken some of the ports BEFORE they were cleaned up :(( The difference is like

Considering I was making around 175whp when all of the combustion chambers were leaking like crazy I should make a nice little gain once I get the head back on and the motor going and tuned. Still haven't got any pics of the header - sorry!

Will update with the dyno sheet once its done, should (hopefully) be only a couple of weeks or so.

Head looks great though the port work does not look too aggressive (i am no expert though). Any reason you chose flat face valves? I would think the extra weight on the valvetrain would make it a bad idea for a circuit car?

Well spotted Blinx :nice:

It was decided that with a stock CTR cam it was pointless to go bigger, although what you can't see is that the area around both the intake and exhaust valves have been increased to flow a bit more.

After talking with a number of racers in the Honda Cup, it was decided (also) that flat top valves (along with buddy Club .5mm head gasket) would bump compression enough to make the most of the (albeit slightly) increased flow.

When new cams are installed at the end of the year (something like Buddy Club Spec IV/V or similar) then the valvetrain will get upgraded and the ports enlarged even further. Then the ITB will really start to shine!

Well!

Had to move on a couple of parts that came up for sale, will hopefully be here by the end of the week (from elsewhere in New Zealand).

You guys will foam at the mouth when you see what me and a mate scored...

Stay tuned!

Keep it up this thread allways keeps me smiling !

wow, the 1st time iv gone through all the pages of this thread ....
one of the greatest civics, i respect this car now.
one more thing, u Have an amazing taste for Rims. good stuff ...
ill b sure to check for new pictures and videos ....

Thanks for the positive comments guys!

Haven't been up to much as I've been busy with buying the house etc (no Blinx, no pics yet), but I CAN say that hopefully this time next week I will have a new suspension setup in my dirty little hands. I will stay tight lipped on what it is until I have pics :secret:

I have also scored a Buddy Club Spec III exhaust (the mid pipe is almost identical to the Spoon exhaust I had on the car for the last race at the last meet), so I am expecting good things!

As it stood (when the car was first tuned properly with ITBs), the car made 175whp at 8750rpm. I am not expecting a huge gain on that figure, but what I am hoping for is more mid range. With the side exit the car felt a bit boggy down low but all hell broke loose up high, I see this as more of a trade-off.

I am finally in a position where I can start to tinker with the interior as well, and have a bit of a plan on what I'll be doing, but that will be revealed in good time... Double :secret:

Lets just say that anything of the sort has never been put into an EK race car before, and will truly make this car a one of a kind.

Well I'm not telling so don't ask!

You'll all have to wait until I have the pics ready...

In the meantime, I put the head back on today, and here are some random pics from the re-attachment:

I like the shiny headers so much I don't know why I didn't buy some earlier!

All that's left to do is do the clearances on the valve train, fit the exhaust (and fiddle with the test pipe a bit), and it'll be good to go! Then just book it for a touch up tune and cross my fingers!

Pure ***,

Keep it up !
