JDM EK9 Race car project nearing completion

Far out!

That looks 10 times better then i ever imagined it would look and always thought it would look out of this world kick ass. Bring camera on Saturday to take photos of my interior :) .

Update:

Bought a new clutch, ready to get it into the car. Got through a pretty sweet deal a Buddy Club short shifter, oil cap, Racing Spec Condenser, and Racing Spec Fan Switch.

Will have some pics shortly, clutch goes in this weekend (I hope if I have the time cos I just bought a new house and pics of new house soon too) but depending on the condition of the flywheel I might have to have it skimmed. If its in good nick then I'll just swap it straight in.

Updates and more pics soon.

new dash is awesome mate love the work thats gone into this car! you could do like on the EK9.org track car and mount "something like this" :p just infront of the standard cluster??

bet you cant wait to get it back on track :D

WELL!

Been a month since my last post, so I thought I better update the thread before it dies!

After so long (and collecting bits) I finally started the car again today! :woot:

There was clearly something wrong with how it was going before because the motor wouldn't idle once warm. Amazing what properly seated valves do for an engine! With the new header and exhaust in effect the exhaust tone is a nice deep rumble, accentuated with the barking sound from the ITBs when you blip the throttle.

In other words, it sounds like pure secks ;)

Header: Hytech Style (can't afford the real thing :( ) small tube 4-2-1
Exhaust: Buddy Club Pro Spec with test pipe (cat removed)

Have acquired some new side skirts (original Bomex) and will be having them painted along with the front bumper and bonnet very, very soon. There's also some aerodynamic changes on the cards, so stay tuned!

Until then I'll leave you with this pic of the engine bay:

Until next time!

Weather is really crap here so I've taken the day off

I'll finish putting the new carbon bits in the interior, and remove the "old" side skirts and test fit the new ones. Who knows, I might even have a go at fixing the old ones, they've served me well and are still in pretty good shape apart from the places where they were cut for the side exit exhausts :p

More pics when I get the interior in :)

Finally got the interior in! Sorry for the small pics, photobucket's not co-operating at the moment :(

Here's a pic of the dash:

And I've figured out how to widen guards using the factory mounting points, factory guards, and a bit of DIY. Only in the early stages of course (the side skirt is SO not staying white) so bear with me. Should allow for an improvement in brake cooling also ;) *edit* I forgot to add that flares are no longer needed!

More soon, the car is off for tuning next Tuesday at last!!!!

Well, here's a small update.

Spent the day in the garage painting the sideskirts, and then fitting them and the front guards. Here's a pic, but bear in mind that these still have the flare on them, the ones I have in the works won't need the flare ;)

Here's a (blurry, or is that moody?) shot of the whole car with new skirts - check out the headlight, decided to experiment with cold air induction again (don't worry, bumper and bonnet will be painted soon!):

Took the car for a quick spin around the local 'hood, feels great! A couple of small problems though, the rocker cover gasket has a small leak (easy fixed), and the rocker cover itself has water (or condensation) in it (!)(not so easy fixed). I am praying it is because the catch can is full to the brim and is blowing (or being sucked) into the rocker cover. Oil in the radiator is normal, and sump oil is in good shape.

*crossing fingers*

I'm booked in for tuning this coming Tuesday so I'm praying like hell it's an easy fix.

Stay tuned, will update tomorrow once I get it sussed out. I hope like hell it's not the head gasket *touches wood* that's not sealing properly. It's funny though, the only problems I have had on my car are the things I haven't done myself, and bolting (and torqueing) the head was one of them.

Bitter sweet day really :( + :) = :S

Easy fix - hooray!

Turned out it was just condensation in the rocker cover from sitting outside at my mate's place while I did the move into my new house :)

*phew*

Made it to the dyno today for the touch up tune and while the car didn't make any more peak power, it gained power all the way from idle, lots in the middle (where it's needed th most), and all the way to 180 wheel horsepower.

Not too bad for 1.6 B16b with stock internals (except for valves ;) )

Here's a vid of it on the dyno, excuse the background noise, the fan was going full noise as it's an enclosed room. But I'm sure you'll get the idea.

*Disclaimer - rpm quoted may not be entirely accurate

And here's a pic I took, loving it!

I hope that's "out there" in a good way?

Spent a day in the garage on Thursday with the intention of cutting out the excess weight (door winder mechanism, glass, side intrusion) from both of the doors.

The results are pretty amazing, although not finished (a little bit of weight will go back in with plastic glazing and door cards), around 15kg has been taken from each door!!!!

If my latest developments come to fruition the car will soon be down below 900kg! ;)

You'll have to wait for the pics though, my camera is on the blink

Time to get a new one methinks.

Hitting the track again on the 24th of November, where there will be a pretty good test of where the car is at, as lots of cars from the last time I was at Taupo will be there. Armed with the lap timer I aim to surprise most of them, as the tight twisty track is what this car was made for!
