JDM EK9 Race car project nearing completion

NEWS FLASH****NEWS FLASH****NEWS FLASH

On a local auction this evening I won something that I will be picking up this weekend, needless to say its the only one down here in NZ and will blow your socks off when you see it!

More real soon!

hmmm, let me guess, um... uhhh...., hmmm.... i GOT IT! a snow plow? lol j/k i look forward to see what it is :nerv:

Hahaha well it IS winter here...

I will have all my new bits by the end of this week, then all will be revealed!

Well I went and picked up all the bits I won, and here is a pic of one of them semi-installed, but the rest of it won't be getting pics until it's fitted.

Here's a pic:

I'll give you a hint about the other stuff, its for the interior and it matches the column cover :)

More soon!

I could have had door cards, but I would have had to cut them to get them in the car around the roll cage, so I let a real good friend of mine (who has a Spooned out EK4 hatch) get them, as they had speakers, tweeters, and crossovers in them and I would have just thrown most of it in the bin anyway.

Anyone else want to have a guess?

bzzzzzzzt!

Would you like to go for double jeopardy, where the scores can really change?

Full cf dash

Nice ;)

It was previously in a show car so is pretty sweet looking, but has some holes for gauges, and a couple of other details that I'll fix before I take pics of it (like a slot for a, LCD panel etc).

Once I've got that sorted I'll have to figure out how the hell I'm going to fit it in a car with a roll cage :nono:

After its fitted an everything is nicely finished it'll be getting covered with alacantra on the top, rally car/touring car style. Can't wait!

I also picked up a set of Apexi N1 Pro dampers bloody cheap (ie a couple of hundred euros), so I'll be doing a bit of maintenance work on those and getting them in the car too. With any luck there will be nothing wrong with them and the guy who sold them just didn't know what he had!

Bloody good scores there! Did you get the handbrake console part too? What you doin with the old suspension once the Apexi go in? :D

Well...

The weather has been real cold here (in my shed at any rate) so haven't finished anything yet, but I got the shocks tested and they are pretty much stuffed. One was blown and the other three are on the way.

I'm real pissed as even though I paid a good price its still money I could have spent on the motor.

The seller says he is going to have them rebuilt at his cost (he owns a tyre/accessories business), but I don't know how as there is only one place in NZ you can get Apexi coilovers rebuilt, and it was more than the cost of the shocks.

Can't win 'em all I suppose :(

But rest assured when they go back to the seller I'll be keeping the springs, spring platforms, locking rings, and top hats. Then I can at least have spares for the other set I scored :nice:

For now the Skunk2 will stay in the car.

Haven't even tried to fit the dash yet, still trying to get to grips as to how I'm going to fit it around the roll cage :nono:

Hope to see this project finished soon!

Thanks rvm, but is any project ever "finished"? :)

I'll keep going as long as you'll have me, hopefully other from all over the place can learn from my mistakes/experimentation and improve their own cars.

Keep up the good work! I may not post here often but i always check this thread :D I showed all my friends and co-workers, they all love your car :nice:

Well not much to tell, but finally got into it and installed the "new" dash. A bit of cutting and swearing and its in! Here are a couple of pics, but there are still a couple of things to do with the centre console, and the glove box has no way of keeping it in, the bracket to mount it is long gone!

And a close up of the cluster:

Eventually the cluster will get replaced with something like this, installed in a flat dry carbon panel:

I have a new kevlar clutch coming from the USA in the next week or so, and once thats in I'll be off to get the car tuned again, and then back out on the track at last!

The second round of the Motul Honda Cup was last weekend and the stories from all my friends who raced in it have got my backside into gear!

Back soon!
