Hi guys,

i just joined the forum and im 17 looking to get a civic next year and pretty new to the scene but know a fair amount about it all, always one thing bugging me is how people go about the mods on their cars with insurance would love and idea cheers,

luke

In what way? How they go about insuring them?
Well just tell them what you have done to it and see what they say. if they want loads then you go else where.
At your age though mate I wouldn't even look at modifying a civic. Just insuring a standard one will be expensive enough.

Posting the same thread in different groups wont get you any better an answer.

Especialy as the answer will be the same from most people on here.

I saw the insurance group after i posted the previous one, and if you havent got anything constructive to say dont bother at all...

(Edit: Deleted my opinion of the question)

....... My first post was being polite so I will try to keep it that way.

Just to point out there are quite a few Insurance company members on the forum and asking for advise to cheat getting cheaper insurance, isn't something you will get from around here.

If you Mod your car you tell your insurance company!! Or else your driving with invalid insurance. If you hit someone of someone hits you, **** will hit the fan and nobody wins.

^ listen to this man,
no offense but you are likly to crash(hense why insurance is so high) so driving with mods uninsured will land you in it deep. its not like youve got years of experience and arnt likly to crash(still not a good idea)

Id be amazed if you could afford to insure a standard civic to be honest, let alone a modded one. Hondas are expensive to repair and insurance for any 17-18 yr old is going to be crippling. Going on parents insurance etc doesnt have the same effect any more either because they rate the risk on the highest risk driver anyway, so im afraid if I was you id pick a standard civic and get some quotes now before even contemplating buying one, that way you avoid dissapointment. You may see these as negative comments, but they are not, they are just realistic.

well i got an insurance quote for 1600 pounds on a 1.6 03 civic sport, so i wont be doing any mods for a while i take it.

That's a good quote I'd say. My brother pays that on a punto. He's 18.

Oh another thing! Some insurers are doing cheaper quotes for people that have a black box thingy installed. Basically monitors how you drive and if you drive badly I'm sure ther are fines they give you. So be aware of that when your searching for quotes!

Yeah i thought it was reasonable, i drive a 1.2 clio now and im on the co op box and i pay £800, but its in my dads name so thats what i did with the civc quote.

Still not recommended, guy who lives over the road from me insured his Corsa in his dads name and him as a named driver and when he crashed it they wouldn't pay out. They know about people doing that to get cheaper insurance.

You are allowed to be a additional driver on a parents account that isnt illegal and also gets cheaper insurance?

That only works if it is actually your parents car and you occasionally use it, if it's your car and you drive it daily then you must be the main driver on your own policy. It's expensive but it's the only way to do it proper

Oh ok, well on my insurance at the moment, you had to specify the milage of each driver.
