Hey guys,

It's probably my girlfriend who has put this in my head, but recently I have started to look at other cars such as Audi's and BMW's.

Being an enthusiast, not just any Audi or BMW but M3's and S3's.

The EK9 is a great car, no doubt about that but it does give people the idea you are a bit of a boy racer :(

They girlfriend would also like it if I had a 'normal car' as she likes to put it LOL :D

E46 M3's are only £10,000 now but I've read the running and servicing costs are mental.

So, recently I have been looking at S3's, such as the one pictured below.

Do you think you will move away from the Jap seen as you get a bit older and go for a more prestige badge?

If so, what cars have you got in mind price ranged 10k and below?

Why would you care what other people think about you? People that judge you on base of what car you have don't deserve your attention.

If you still think it's important what everything thinks about you, maybe a DC5?

No, you are right.

That is how I used to think, but Audi's and BMW's do lool nice :D

Not sure how much 'grown up' a DC5 is to an EK9 to be honest. Champ white with white alloys.

Same difference.

10k E46 M3 might be a bit ropey? Wouldn't consider an Audi S3 if you're shortlisting an M3. Different league.

I've had similar comments about my car. It gets tiresome trying to explain what it is and what it's capable of.

The earlier editions are going for a touch over 10k. Depreciation on them is crazy, a lot of owners are now getting rid before they are worth nothing.

Yeah, I hear ya.

Annoying.

You could always swap your GF for a JDM girl? Maybe she'd understand:p

I will definately be in the market for some kind of bargain barge as soon as finances allow, probably a BMW 540i. Would still like to keep the Civic for trackdays and autotests etc, but something a bit more grown up would be nice, and also something I can go touring Europe in.

Have to Agree there

350Z ... i test Drove one not that long ago and thought it was really good!!! :nice:

i had that stage with my s14a, could cruise about perfectly happy and comfortably even upto rediculous speeds (never maxed it out even when pushing a gt-four along at a gps registered 160mph....on a track day, before anyone asks)...

seriously though, it is a sensible thing to do, and your gf speaks sense. it's why i have a vw bora tdi to cruise around in and as a daily driver (70mpg+ is delicious) and then have a sporty car for weekends or when im feeling a bit angry (or go on trackdays etc), otherwise i'd probably have one car to do it all, like i did when i had the s14a.

my misses hates the ek9, but was happy in the s14 as it was the best of both worlds (unless you used stupid coilovers). she was a big fan of the ep3 when i had it though, even if it was a bit common :p

The EK9 is a performance for you dollar machine. What you're "upgrading" too will probably be heavier, quieter, comfier and undoubtedly more expensive to operate and work on.

The EK9 is like running sneakers- cheap, light, and fast. The cars your looking at are like fancy leather loafers with athletic insoles- boring, heavy, girls like it (expensive).

But if you feel your at the old man settling down stage then get an old man settling down car. Commute back and forth every day to Boringville.:))

I would just throw in an integra LS or GSR fifth gear in the EK9 to make the GF happy when cruising.

I would have to go with a 2DR Skyline GTR... (my girl dont stress me about my car she just thinks its crazy that i got close to 400bhp in my EK9 and no AC. So i think it would be cheaper to put AC in my car rather than get the GTR... LMAO.

So thats my next thing i working on acquiring AC...when Top Fuel built my car they took it out... but the prices of stuff here in Barbados is crazy compared to what u guys pay for stuff....

Wow lots of different opinions on this subject!

Gee, I was in the same boat for a short while and am still thinking about a more sensible/suitable car for the road!

As you may or may not know, I crashed my first EK9 after only 4 months of owning it [almost killed me both literally and mentally - boy I loved that car!] so I thought and still do think what if it happens again?
Before I bought my second '9 I was looking at the Audi A3 1.9tdi Black Edition looks superb, good build quality, good fuel economy but its a £24k car so that would mean 4 years of finance!

The thing is no car is like the '9, but in the same respect each car has its own advantages/dis-advantages!

If you could afford to - I would recommend keeping the '9 and investing in a 2nd more comfortable/economical car!

And as already mentioned, please do not let the 'thought' of others distract your opinion.

Josh..

what about an e36 m3? 5k for a nice one, lots left over? looks amazing in technoviolet.

e46 m3 is an amazing car though

sold my ek9 to buy a bmw 330. only got the 330 as i couldnt insure the m3, now im 21 (last week) im buying a e46 m3. they are amazing cars.

the ek9 was a great car but as you say it does give off that boy racer image.
if a ek9 did come up at a decent price i would deff buy 1 again but keep it just for the track

what do you think of the audi s4?

S2000, get to keep da Vtec and your Gf will think its da tits!

You make a lot of sense and I don't want a boring car :)

Thats the thing too, modern cars these days are all big and heavy.

If I was going to have a daily driver and a mad weekend car, it would be something a lot more crazy than an EK9!

Mate,

Have you looked into the running/servicing/parts costs of the E46 M3? It's madness! The only reason I have not got one, will cost an arm and a leg to run as a daily for me and better hope nothing goes wrong. BIG money mate.

S2000, get to keep da Vtec and your Gf will think its da tits!

I have thought about it, but what about in the winter when there is ice/snow? I read they are a real nightmare.

I don't have space to run two cars at the moment, so whatever car I own is always my daily.

would you not go for lik maby an evo 6 or 7 nice big cars too but an s3 would be class too but prob expensive to run
