I have a set of 15'' mugen rnr which came with my ek4 when I bought them. I want to change for a set of rota grid (as I cant afford volk te37), but rnr's are in bad state and need a good refurb. My questions are :

Should I spent 400 euro on getting them refurbished and than sell them(if so for what what price to sell)
or
Should I sell them as they are?

I dont really know much about them but there genuine mugen still with center caps(5kg each).
Any suggestion on what can I do with them are welcome.

thanks

got any pics of them on your car?? id be tempted to keep em and be different rather than the usual rotas :)

yeah I am gonna put a pic up to show what condition they are in, I was thinkin to fix them and keep them for track coz the pretty light and havent seen too many of them around.

Anyway I ll put the pic when I ll get home.

If they only need paint or minor scratch repair
I would paint them by myself.

I heard RNR tend to crack, so take a good look at them
after removing all the old paint.

As you can see they are in very bad state, I got a set of 15'' rota grid in bronze, so probably gonna p/x them for a set of new tayo t1 r tires as I am not gonna spend 400 quid on getting them refurbished and than selling them.
They are unbelievably light.

ya they tend to crack alright and there not as rare as you would think either after i got my set i went to a meet and there was 4 cars with them. i had rota grids before and i love them iv been tryin to get another set. no point payin 400e to refurb them as you wouldnt get that for them after it like. pm on the way

a professional refurb company would charge about 150-200 euro to fully refurb them to look like new so id thats your best option and cheapest

Do them yourself mate, sand them down with a bit of wet and dry....get a pack of playing cards wedged all the way round the rim, then just paint them with a spray can, lots of light coats....if you spend 15 mins prepping each wheel they will look fine....if you spend all day on the set you could have them looking like new, or if you can get the paint blasted off for cheap then do that.

no harm in having a go, cause if you mess it up and sell them, whoever buys them will be refurbing anyway

400 euros for refurb is rediculous

Nitromorse.....sand...... spray...... done probabaly cost you £100 if that.......

and they are stunning, awesome, genuine wheels.

If you get rid of them for rotas / tyres your a fool! Dont get me wrong rota make great wheels, but theese are genuine mugens !!

i sold them to jamie-gings couple of weeks ago, I dont want to repaint them myself as I know they wouldnt come out the I wanted them too. The cracks would have to be reweiled or whatever which would add to more cost plus caring the risk of them crumbling when put under pressure on the track.

They are great wheels, I didnt even need to balance them and are very light. But I just dont fancy them for some reason thats all.

I understand what you saying and I would love to keep them and get myself a different set, but I cant afford to do that(being a student does pay off) and having to many parts laying around the room i have to get rid of some so I can keep going on upgrading the car.

thanks for all the input lads

there is absolutly nothing wrong with rota, a lot of poeple dont like them because they make replicas of high standard wheels, so basicly they are the cheap versions. Neverless rota is still good quality but not the same as their counterparts thats being copied.
there is an interesting write up thats worth a read
