new civic type r

Judging by the sound of it (or lack of it) I would confidently say thats a turbo. Rumours are that it will be around 300 horses and 2.0-2.2 turbo.

Shame as it wont sound like a 'civic' but it means it will be more competitive in the current market with simular turbo and power.

Look on the brighside....means big tuning potential in the future :D

Im waiting for ek swap package to come out lol

with every new generation of civic type r that gets released, it just makes the ek9 age even better

i reckon the new type r is definately a turbo cause of all the emissions jibberish

at least its going to be quick, from the looks of it...

it will undoubtedly have a torsion beam rear suspension but thats not really so terrible, if the car is light enough and the layout is well balanced it wont have a huge impact on handling

cars like the megan rs cup also have a rear torsion bar, and trust me, they handle well and are quick!

the problem with the handling on the fn2 didnt have much to do with the rear suspension layout, the petrol tank was just placed way too far up front under the front seats i think. this upset the balance so much that the car was no longer fun to drive and really played to the disadvantages of the rear beam as well.

what would interest me is if honda has some sort of a torque steer reduction setup like the revoknuckle system ford uses for example. renault uses a similar setup on the clio rs and the megane rs as well.

anyway... im not tempted by the new civic type r, more than content with my ek9!

Might be a stupid question but how they going to make the rear steer system work with a torsion beam rear axle?
Have no idea about rear steer systems.

Rumours were 1.6T, now they are 2.0T (300). Supposedly the CEO Takanobu Ito and R&D chief Yoshiharu Yamamoto said that they are after the FWD ring lap record for production car. Also mention of dual clutch system.

Also mention of the Adaptive damper system might be use, or something special.

Still wont be the same as a VTEC Turbo.

Hopefully it's not just a run of the mill turbo engine.

If you are after a New hatch back that's Fwd and Fast.. Nothing will beat the new Megane RS....End of... Honda are just simply Not in the game any more and haven't been for quite a few years now.

Enjoy their past creations as they were the Glory days when honda were making Real drivers car's .. This thing looks wank, sounds wank, and probably drives wank compared to the EK9..

If you google 2015 civic type r auto express there are pictures of it and you can see the intercooler so I would say its a turbo for sure. I think it has the potential to be brilliant as the new Civic's chassis feels so good to drive as it is, before all the Type r adjustments are made.

Honda definatley have the know how and resources to build a quicker car than the megane, whether they will or not is a different question recently they have been more bothered about saving the planet and being "Green".

Lmao I've heard some **** now.

Honda know what they are doing, if they want to make a quick good handling car they can. Don't confuse mild UKDM Type Rs with Honda's finest JDM models. The DC5 / FD2 were stonkingly good cars.

People need to stop living in the past, emissions means no high power N/As, so Turbo is they way forward. EK9 yes great car. Put that on the market now you'd sell a handful. Consumers want FASTER. EK9 fun to drive but it's freaking slow man, you can't compare!

For me, personally, its not about the under the hood power, it is all about the suspension. Honda can produce a good suspension, they elect not to for some reason on the civic models. Which is fine...there are a ton of spares left as well as aftermarket for these 92-00 civics. Maybe a aftermarket suspension full replacement is needed for all these newer civics and not an engine?

As Jay_K has said, Honda will shine through. Megane RS fast but still breaks often and falls apart too

You need a balance of handling / power i guess. UK Honda's are mild compared but made for UK who the Japanese obviously think are not worthy of the JDM models. I agree, you'd see so many 50 year olds driving around in FD2 / DC5's lol.

JDM models are great but bring them to the UK, and like the FD2, the suspension was far to hard for the UK roads, engine, box, chassis great, so everyone dumps AST coilovers as the first mod.

You can never have everything, but maybe a balance. Im guessing thats what Honda are doing now, they need to compete with the VXR, RS, FOCUS, etc.

Most of the times 0-60 figures sell cars lol. Im quite excited and will be popping to for a test drive when its out.

Knowing Honda, and seeing as they are later in this market off turbo charged cars FF cars, they simply can not fail compared to the megane RS or Focus RS. They also do not seem to be in a hurry to bring out the Type-R, what IMO means they will do everything they can to bring the best car possible to the market.

From what I have seen yesterday, that type-R was flying around the corners compared to the other 'test' cars out there.

I had posted this a few days ago in the "Other Honda's" section, as this thread has caught people's eye's the most I thought I'd share what I have found whilst doing some research.

The following test car is running a 2.2L engine (I found this out after doing a quick reg check on the car, engine size showing "2197cc")
From the sound it's producing it definitely sounds like forced induction. Car media site's reported that the new Type R would feature a 2.0L 300bhp Turbo high output engine with *all wheel steering* (confirmed by Honda) nothing regarding engine size was mentioned or confirmed by Honda; I'd assume anything upto 2.5L will be possible although 2.0-2.2 seems most likely.

Honda's goals at the moment are to make this Type R the fastest FWD hot hatch production car round the Nurburgring, current lap holder is the Megane RS.

To be honest from what I can see I don't think the car has much going for it looks wise, this generation of civic looks horrific from the rear as does this, the front end looks aggressive with the flared arches.. but that's where it appears to end. As seen below

Looks a bit like a beefed up prius to me from the rear

Also I don't see the point in giving the car 4 doors.. if they are attempting to make it the fastest car around the ring then naturally I'd assume the type of audience that would buy this car would be track fans..not usually people who buy hot hatches with 4 doors.

interesting facts! thanks for sharing.
