Oil coolers what's people's opinion

I did think it was a typo but wanted to check

so would you say the thermostatic plate is not that effective then?
As Rob said, the thermostatic plates do always allow some oil though, which I think may be the reason for it. The cooler kit I've got was run on StevenEK9's car before mine and he never reported any issues, so I don't think there is any issues with the operation of the sandwich plate itself

I just bought a sheet of Perspex for a couple of quid off eBay and run that on the road to allow it to heat up quicker, only takes 2 minutes to take it off for track use so I've never really looked any further into it tbh

I run no thermostat plate.(abit of a mix up but ran with it anyway)
Recently I couldn't even get above 55c on a 25min journey. Temp is in the sump though.
So now I've blocked the whole cooler off with some cardboard (gypsy fab) now I can reach 75-80.

it's a 19 row you have Steve :)

sized it big so that it would provide plenty cooling on track which as you have found it does perfectly! partially blocking it for the road is a great idea to make sure the engine is still getting up to temp

Thanks for that Steve, I knew it was big haha.

Yeah definitely does the trick on track, and I've found leaving a quarter of it exposed on the roads allows the car to heat up ok, bit provides decent enough cooling for a blast down a country road!

oil cooler can add extra wear to oil pump system ?
heard horror stories about spun bearings and even crashes trough oil leaks with low quality oil cooler kits.
