^ I love Royal Purple's Motor Oil, It's been the best type of oil I have ever used. I think on my next oil change I will give it 10W40 again with the Royal Purple filter.

I don't doubt Royal Purple's claims.

There's no doubt in my mind that it is a superior product.

However, paper media is paper media. What I mean by that is that oil does not flow through paper very well or at all. That is the reason why there are pleats. Oil must flow over these pleats and the deposits are randomly caught in these pleats.

But it is also possible for deposits to flow back into the oil after being 'filtered' as these pleats do not actually filter in a way that we understand how an air filter would.

The best oil filters on the market are the reusable types. Yes something like that does exist and they are expensive. Royal Purple cites that their filter does 25microns, and that is very good. Some reusable types only do 60-70 and that is unacceptable on a daily driven car. The best ones can do 1micron and still flow up to 37gpm (that's gallons per minute).

Consider that a typical throw away filter is US$5 and a top of the line reusable is $US200. That's about 40 throw away filters or about 200,000miles at 5,000 intervals. That's a LOT of mileage.

The Royal Purple ones are at least US$10 (closer to 13 actually)

But with the ability to filter down to 1 micron, you can safely increase your mileage by about 2,000 miles if a decent synthetic oil is used. This effectively skews the whole cost vs. performance vs. return ratio, especially when comparing it to premium throw aways.

Personally, I am looking into the reusable types because our hobby is already wasteful enough. If my engine will only last through 40 filters, then that's 40 filters I would have prevented from going into the earth. I'm no tree hugger, not by a long song, but whatever difference I can make, I can be sure to make it and urge others to at least consider the same.
