police speed trap?????

Hi guys,

I think I've been caught speeding by a police van parked on a motorway bridge! :angry:

I was running late for work so was going a little quicker than normal, saw the van last minute, glanced down and saw 95 on the clock. (chances are I was actually doing 90) im really hoping my tilt bracket is enough to get away with out them being able to read the plate, but I doubt it.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there is any way to find out if I have been caught before (if) the ticket comes through?

Also if I were to challenge it, would they be able to enforce it if they were parked illegaly?
 
No way to find out unfortunately. Got to wait two weeks to see if you get an NIP. Not sure if the tilt bracket will make a jot of difference tbh! I'd be expecting 3 points and a 60 quid fine :(
 
As for the parked illegally thing my dad got caught speeding and asked me to see if they can park on private property and catch you, turns out Police speeding vans can pretty much do whatever they want, in wales they were once hiding in a horse box on the side of the road to people didn't know it was a speed camera lol.
 
I did much the same, also had a tilt bracket which was tilted as much as possible, still got me!
 
i always ask the question.

WTF were doing to " see the van at the last minute " i and everyone i know see's them from miles away.. and they are not alowed to hide, mainly because the reason they are there is not to catch you its to make you aware they are there so you slow down.. they'd rather you see them and brake and slow down than go speeding through and they can fine you... despite popular belief..

how aware are you of the surroundings when you drive.. it worries me you travel at such high speeds and then can't see a camera van..

take more care when you are driving and start to become more aware of your surroundings..

slow down man.. i mean no offence by this dude.

at least you will look out for them in future huh ;)

I know what you mean but there's a road past mine, and they wait in this dance studio which is hidden by trees if your going 1 way so if you are going that way you don't see them till it's too late, its a 30 road aswell, and a really long straight one :/ bastards

bastards? you were the person speeding, not them, they were parked!

how many times have you been speeding and not get caught, many right? You get caught and your pissed calling them bastards? ...and not that it matters, you still have to pay for your issue.

i got caught on the motorway and everyone was speeding after average speed cameras round this bend and after the bend who were to be seen at this bridge? a cop van shooting laser beams at every speeding vehicle. 2 more years of sensible driving :drive: before i have a clean license again.. then i can drive like a maniac again :)
 
if you are caught ask for photo or video evidence and if you cant clearly see that its you, you could say it was someone else. but then you run into issues with insurance etc....
 
Sorry but they are bastards.
Cameras, vans and police hide to try to catch people.
They pop out from round corners round here, I strongly believe its a money exercise.
No way is it a visual deterrent the way they place them right after blind corners etc it's a scam.

Simple solution - stick to the legal limit

I hate the bastards that think they can speed everywhere

Fair point above. We all run the risk occasionally so if/when you get caught, just take it.

There's not much point trying to worm your way out of it. Chances are, if you attempt that, you'll forefit your right to attend a YDS/Speed Awareness course and land yourself in significantly deeper poo poo..
 
P.S. I may be biased as my kid brothers a police officer :p

was gonna say also, its a 30 Mph... yeah we all sit at 75 - 80 MPh on the motorway as its a 70Mph and the traffic is all flowing at that speed but on a 30Mph there is going to be a reason its 30Mph..
