Realistic price for an EK4

Tbf you don't see many threads with issues on these cars, like on the astra forums it's constant "smokey on start up" threads and "cracked exhaust manifold"
I couldn't even tell you a common fault on the ek9 lol
So from a maintenance point of veiw I think they are a bargain.
Insurance is alittle steep when you consider its a 1.6 hatchback.

lol my colleague has an Astra, owned it for 2 months. Turbo has gone twice and engine management light came on yesterday morning. Lost all power this morning. Bad times.

I guess the EK9 is built by a fantastic company so reliability is there. EJ passed MOT with 0 minors which isn't bad for a 14 year old car lol, I'd imagine the Type R would be just as good, if not better in that respect.

I just think that with that sort of power at my disposal, whether it be a case of my feeling the speeds I'd be doing or not could get me into hot water. Confidence can lead into cockiness and the last thing I wanna do is have an accident and hurt someone else.

Think I'm best putting my money away, getting some more experience and taking it from there. Still want to ride shotgun in a 9 if anyone offers ;)

Just because it has the power doesn't mean you have to use it all
Build you revs up with your confidence. Say first week keep it out of vtec so reving up to 6k and get comfortable with how it accelerates, then wonder into vtec the next week and stop at 7-7.5k. Get used to it and then go higher again.
You'll soon be grabbing the lower gears and revving that thing don't you worry lol

Yeh I agree with you in that respect. Guess I'm just scared of ballsing up and taking someone out with me lol

I wouldn't have taken less than 4.5k for my previous EK4.

A lot of people tend to under value the Ek4 SiR in my opinion!
Id say your old SiR was worth that all day long!
I dont know about the UK but the number of facelift SiR's in Ireland is actually quite small!

But to the OP .. you could save and buy an Ek9!
OR
you could buy a good SiR and build it to beat Ek9's!!

Nah you'll be alright,
Book a trackday with whatever car you end up in. Give it a good go on track and you'll see they aren't going to kill you.

I done an experience day in the Ariel Atom, Gallardo Superleggera and Porsche GT3 RS. Also done 160mph as a frikkin pillion on my brothers sports bike LOL
I'm quite accustomed to speed, it's just I've been told, and have seen that the way EK's pick up speed is something else.

Would definitely track the car though. Not frequently, but it would happen

I just want to make sure that if I commit to a 9 it'll be I'm about 70% there for the 9,
Don't do it if you don't feel like it. Buy an EK4, grow towards a 9. Even though they are not thát different there's still a significant difference. Just remember that you probably want a 9 in the future so it would be a shame to spend 5k on your 4 :p I had a B16A EG5 and at a certain moment I just decided to sell it cause the money I had to spend to get what I want also got me a DC2 :) And my EG5 would have never been as good!

You speak as if colour isn't frequently abbreviated in this game JT lol (CW, SSB etc)
Lol, not here except for CW. What's SSB?

and have seen that the way EK's pick up speed is something else.

Your posts are inconsistent man. The ek9 is marginally faster than an ek4 in a straight line, and without practice and a level of skill they will be equally fast in the corners; thus you can smash yourself up pretty bad in either one. However this can be easily avoided with a small amount of willpower. "not trusting yourself" or whatever is a garbage reason.

The maintenance of an ek9/ek4 is also the same.

I have skimmed the thread so apologies if I have missed it but what is your budget? That to me would be the defining point of car search.

I'd happily lay down 6k for the right 9.

plus, hard to put it into words since English isn't my first language :)

If you have a 6k budget an ek4 is madness man. spend 4-4.k on an ek9 and spend the rest on insurance etc. sounds like a plan to me. you dont need 6k for a good ek9 lolz.

^^ TRUTH. You may need a couple of G's spare to insure a 9 depending how old u are!

What is your first language?

I'm Portuguese :)
and I'm 21, looking (ideally) to have the 9 at 22 (gives me time to get some NCB built up alongside more time with my licence)

Would be keeping the 9 standard bar a twinloop (I like how they sound)

You can do a quote online now to see how much it will be, I'm 23 and I pay just over £500 on my 9.

Is that all parts with mods declared? I pay £1400 for my EJ9 :/

£100 per 0.1litre. got quoted £2200 by an insurer on here when I was trying to pick it up. bad times since I live in a gated community as well lol.
