Rob's EK9 Progress

just had a good read of this
looking very good
but wasnt cutting up a mat abit extreme compared to just replacing it ?

that respray considering what was involved was pretty cheap, well not cheap but well priced

Thanks for all the possitive comments guys :nice:

I would of loved to replace the mat but seeing as they're hard to come by in mint condition and would cost a fortune. This was the more viable option and as far as I'm aware these cannot be bought from Honda any more.

Ladies and Gentlemen it is my pleasure to announce the next update!

A bit late really as I did these next few jobs over the last couple of weeks but anyway hope you all enjoy :nice:

So going to start off with the new intake I bought. I had planned to make my own but was too much aggro for the small saving I may have made.

Picked up this DC2 Mugen copy intake.

Gave it a clean up and sorted the filter too before figuring out how to get in the bay.

Will modify it a little more to get it sitting in the correct place but it's on and working well.

To get the filter positioned better I have removed the torque mount from the gearbox and filled the mounts with polyurethane while I wait to sort out some better engine mounts.

Decided to taper the edge off the throttle body in between jobs. So out came the dremel, again...

Not 100% perfect but will sort it within a few months I expect.

A week or so passed and I couldn't resist it any longer and spent some extra monies!

Bought new gaskets and some Titanium heat wrap with it.

Seems mad but gave it a light polish before wrapping to keep it looking nice a bit longer.

Then the wrapping started. Had forgot how much of a pig this job was.

But very satisfying once complete. Love the way it looks!

So the next day it had to go in. Luckily the rain held off but it was fooking cold!

Out with the old, heavy cast iron one.

And new! Feels better to drive already with a bit of extra midrange and good boost of power at 5000rpm. According to the butt dyno that is.

Final comparison

So quite a big update from me with a bit more to come in the next couple of months.

Thanks all for sticking with it :nice:

Sweet mate, when i did mine i pulled into tescos peteol station the heat wrap was smoking qutie amsuing

Great progress Dude!
The idea of the throttle body shaving being to make airflow easier and less surfaces to hit against ye??

Thanks guys.

Hehe yeah when I was done I had a good trip down the motorway but it was pretty smokey whilst waiting at lights etc. Chuckling to myself as people must of thought it was broke! lol

Yeah that's it basically just to help things along really. Not sure if its made a real improvement as I did a few bits at once but it can't do no harm.

Small ish update.

Sorted a better piece of hose to join the intake together and got it sitting in a better position.

Ordered a set of four 15mm wheel spacers from Tegiwa and a torque damper.

Before spacers...

During...

After.

Some picture whoring there, sorry guys!

Plumbed in the Damper, which was a bit of a faff!

and a final shot I took the other night.

Thanks all :))

Time for a pre update, update :))

As some of you may know this happened back in 2011.

http://www.ek9.org/forum/general-chat/37884-not-impressed.html

Not long after spending a month in the body shop. So finally sent it off again to get this sorted along with both bumpers.

Usual stone chips and a small bump on the bumper, all abuse from daily driving over the last few years.

So popped down to visit the paint shop to get a quote and a date to fit me in.

The following week I dropped it off.

Currently in bits but should be done for the week end. 15 March.

The old bonnet badge was starting to fade slightly so now is a good opportunity to get that replaced. Also the front number plate was starting to separate and would let the fresh paint down. Also getting the washer jets welded up while its there too. Fed up polishing around them! Should make the bonnet look cleaner as well

So gave Mr Boyle a call for some fresh parts. Thanks again :nice:

Will update again in a few days when I drop off the badge.

Thanks all.

Popped down to hand over the new bonnet badge, check on the progress and get some more snaps for the album. Hoping its sorted by Sunday.

Bonnet welded up. Done well considering the metal is very thin!

Next update will be collection :))

very clean as per. Did you get a complete respray? or just wee touch ups?

Cheers Ally. Just the bonnet and both bumpers. The rest is still in good nick considering all the driving I've done. Regular washing makes a huge difference.

Thank you! :)) going to mount them in the plastic skuttle but need to figure that out when I get it back.

looking good robbie just needs a drop on some eibach springs...
