Stroking the B16b

-blinx what is being balance with the crank? since it came from the factory all crankshaft have been balance already.

Hi, please try to use the quote feature in the future. But to answer your question the crankshaft itself is being balanced as are the rods and pistons to make sure they are all the same weight or very close. while the factory parts are balanced from honda they are only balanced for there intended use, for the LS 89mm crank that's below 7000rpm or use.

I've been hearing good things about the B18C motor. But replacing the stock B16B motor would be alot of work. If I decide to go for 1800cc what parts do i need & how much you think would it cost? Is it cheaper to replace the engine or stroke it? Any reliability issues? Im asking this coz i live in an island where no tuners are available. I have to have it done 1st in the city w/c is only accessible by air or sea. Once it reaches my place then if something goes wrong then I have to fly a tuner mechanic over. Thats why reliability is my main concern.

If the work is not properly done you'll definitely have reliability issues, in your case I think is better to get a complete motor swap, including ecu!

Im planning to stroke my b16b using b18b crank and rods using the pct piston's. My question would be, is it direct bolt-on the b18b crank and rods to b16b block using pct piston? What are the things should i watch for. Thank you very much.

don't do it, you will have 13.0 compression and your pistons will likely contact the head/valves since piston to deck height would be .006 and i believe the minimum should be .0030

Instead maybe try using JDM b16 pistons (p30) this will give you 11.5 compression and a much safer .0035 piston to deck height.

I may be wrong about the deck height thing, i am not an engine builder.

use the JDM ITR pistons - P73-00

They are a superior piston and give a marginally higher compression bump than the P30. Moreover, they have wrist pin cooling holes, molybdenum coated skirts and a flatter top for better quality compression.

is there other way that valve and piston clearance will not hit using the pct piston?

What should i tell to the machine shop with those modification on the 89mm b18b crankshaft in order to withstand the stress of the crankshaft.

use a smaller cam...or have the faces of the PCT piston machined. Obviously there is a limit to how thin you can go as well.

magnaflux it to see if there are any cracks. Then have it dynamically balanced and order up a crank girdle.

i will use my b16b block and put a ls crank and ls rods with itr pistons. Is it a direct bolt-on? does b16b's block doesn't have crank girdle?

Just had a thought as I was laying in bed this morning...

If a B16b is a destroked B18 and you can get a 2.0 stroker kit for the B18, could you put the 2.0 (say toda kit) stroker kit straight into the B16b block? asumming you get everything you need.

please don't get mad at me if this is the most ridiculous idea ever!! I'm not all that clued up on how engines work.:)

I was not aware that Toda made a stroker kit to 2.0 BUT you are correct, if there was a stroker kit made for the b18c that came with crank/rods/pistons/bearings then you could also use that in the b16b block :nice:

Phew! haha thought I was about to make an idiot of myself!

heres one I've found

Toda Europe

it doesn't give a price but it looks like it includes most things:)

I would not trust the jun kit, it seems very high priced and exaggerates the actual displacement achieved.

You can easily achieve 2.0 using a b16b block, you just need a b18a/b crank which is 89mm, the matching rods and any piston of your choice in the bore of your choice, with std 81mm bore you will have 1835cc 82mm 1880cc , every 1mm overbore will give you about 46cc. You would need at least 84mm bore to achieve 2.0 and that would require aftermarket sleeves.

Hey guys I'm new to ek9.org, I currently have a 97 dx ek9 hatchback. I put a b16b type r motor in it and the tranny too. I have a skunk2 intake manifold, apexi vtec controler with act stage 1 clutch, Dc1 headers with a Powercord exhaust, I have the AEM EMS that I am planning on tuning the car with but I am waiting untill I have all the parts I want and then I will install everything. I am planning on getting Rage Hytech headers with a stage 2 clutch and a light weight flywheel which I'm not sure which Brand to get. I want to go All motor with high compression pistons. And is the b18 crank and rods with the pistons a good choice or should I go with The spoon 1.8L stroker kit for the b16b? Please Help!!! I need good info and suggestions on what clutch kit to go with and what light weight flywheel? Also what stroker kit? Please reply to me. Thanks.

Ok Guys, Been doing some reading on here about stroking a B16B. Is there any good stroker Kit that you guys can recommend ?? had a look on the spoon web site didnt find anything. if all eles fails I'll stick with ITR Crank and ITR Con-Rod and use the B16B Piston. From memory around 12:1 commpression, oh and whats the balance with the compression ratio, Reliability VS Power, Running 12:1 safe ??
