student protests in london

Cunts. The guy hangin from the memorial is dave gilmour from pink floyds son hahaha

I think studens are doing a great job.People are screaming finaly also here in greece. This thing must never stop and people from other countries must go out there and start ask their rites before its too late.Politics are going to murder every mens-womens future for ever.No jobs and no rites and no encurances for old peoples are a fact.At this time i have no job also all my 4 mates and the most important thing is that nobody will hire us in an atmosphere of the crisis who everybody fires.Taxis is going up every month and with no money what whould you do to survive? How much you buy your gas? Here is 1,60 e per liter. The standart paycheck is 592e.I think every man need democracy or else will be doomed. You must joking with everything you say,i also have a b16b and try to keep it not sale it. :blinx:

Matt the Government loans you the money interest-free for the tuition fees (£25-30k) and you only pay them back once you're earning over £21,000 pounds and even then it's only something like £15 per week repayment I think.

The new system means the lowest earning 25% of students after they graduate are actually better off than before. They only ask for the money if you have it to give so don't let the debt stop you :)

None of the money given out to students is interest free. Tuition fees and maintenance loans are compound interest loans. Admittedly the interest is not huge, it's a couple of hundred a year on something like £21,000 being owed.

I agree with most that has been said in this thread. It appears the majority of students out there protesting (which is by no means a majority, there are over 1.2 million students at any one time in this country) have no idea about what this change actually means. If anything, it's only going to adversely affect the students who do well, achieve a decent degree and go on to earn a higher salary. Those who achieve a degree and earn under £21, 000 will not have to pay a penny back!

I'm not opposed to this change because of the rise in tuition fees, if anything I think they should be higher. Fewer people should go to University, it shouldn't be a 'doss'.... and the ever growing number of mickey mouse degree's should be scrapped.

However, the problem this change poses is that it makes it incredibly difficult for Universities to forecast their annual income! With government funding being slashed, anything the Universities charge over the initial £3000 for tuition goes back to them. So they are now going to be completely relying on the economic status quo of the country year on year.....which in my eyes, does not bode well for maintaining a high standard of higher education.

And by the way, I graduated from my first degree, only to go straight back into higher education to complete a second degree which was at my own expense, since the government will not pay twice which is fair.

We moan at the government handing out free money to educate people, but lets face it, they spend millions of pounds year on year on ridiculous and unnecessary projects that end up a complete waste of money and resources. Paying to educate people is hardly the worst use of funds....

i wish they would jus give up, it is funny however seen the police get the **** kicked out of them haha

I thought student loans just kept up with the rate of inflation? Hence no 'real' interest on them.

Slightly concerned at how many people here think that a university education is pointless. Granted there are a lot of drinking degrees now, and hopefully these fee increases will see less people doing them, but degrees in core subjects like medicine, science and engineering will always be worthwhile, no matter what the cost.

I think that used to be the case, but for the past 5 years at least it's been compound interest. Although the interest rates are subsidised by the government so they are never that high (hasn't been above 4.8% APR since 98).

The interest rates fluctuate year on year based on Bank of England base rate +1% or RPI values.

Some amount of mongos on here ha.

Im a student and have never had a load etc. I also go out and get steamz at the weekend. Fail to see how thats different to having a job and then going out at the weekend and boozing. I also work part time.

Like Gav said, I know people that have went to uni and now cant get jobs related to there degrees but theres still plenty of people getting graduate jobs and hopefully once this 'recession' ****s off then these people will too. Ones from my course starting salary is around 27500.

agreed.

most of the people i went to school with went to uni and done stupid fukn degrees and none of them can get a job.

there all fannys

But like this? Are you serious? What a moronic comment.

the people still getting jobs with their degrees are the people that took real degrees in subjects like medicine and engineering. I know at least 4 people who took degrees in computing before the recession and none of them ended up in a job related to there degree because no one would hire them. How is cal being a mong by stating tht his friends are idiots for taking crappy degrees? Seems like a valid point to me.

Well one he tries to call them stupid, but misspells '****ing' and then 'there all fannys', so everyone that attends university is a fanny?

His point of how 'none' of them can get a job, this just sounds totally made up on the spot.

good stuff, some times i wish i went to uni. been thinking about jacking my job in and going.
anyway that rust isnt that bad, but take the back plastic interior pannels out and check how bad the rust is on the inside.

Bit of a differing opinion in this post eh.

agreed.

I'd like to add, it's "they're"....not "there" :)

Well as an outsider looking in (international Student) , I think its a pretty interesting subject.
I know people here who abuse government grants on things like dyslexia, get all their benefits I.E new laptops etc and just pawn it. But thats just the government being stupid about granting money. If they just cut back on these items as oppose to raising uni fees then that would probably sort out this need for funds.
The most damaging thing a country can do for it self is to retard funding to their education system.Sure you might have people taking stupid degrees (fine arts? LOL) but at the end of the day there are also alot of people taking business/ Medical/Law degrees that will in turn help society.
Raising the tuition fees means that there will be a shortage of these people in the next 10 years, More tax payers money and subsides for those who are unemployable.
It seems that alot of people without degrees also do well for themselves, dont get me wrong! but surely jobs in those sectors will suffer when more people choose to go straight into work??Not to mention more immigration from the rest of the EU?

End of the day its not my problem , I pay enough in uni fees to fund 3 students a year.. thats extortion and compared to global uni rates its not really all that unbelievable to raise uni rates. I think the government coulda been abit smarter on their grants in the first place which wouldnt have made this such a big issue to cut funding.
I hope it doesnt get too out of control.. there are kids in the US leaving university with over 100K in debt.. good luck with that!

well i've been seeing this on the news/web the last few days and its starting to get on my tits! What a bunch of ignorant wankers, them seem to have forgotten what people scarficed in the past to grant them the freedoms they have today. I can see why they're angry that fee's are going up, BUT i can see why its being done. As it will stop alot of teens going to uni simply for a piss up for a few years before they have to go into the real world and get a job! All i can say is that its a good job i'm not over there as i probably would've taken a bat to some of them :mad::mad:

I would really be surprised if any of them even know the significance of the people/things that they are defilling. Anyone else think they've just lost all sympathy with the public and should get a good kick up the hole?

totally agree mate, well said!!!

ignorant little fu*ks! always whining! they get more concessions and discounts at retail stores and banks than people who serve the country in one of the forces like myself! this really gets on my t*ts! they need to man the fu*ck up and get on with life like everyone else!!!!

my rant over sorry :((

agree 100%!! the people who matter in UK society get **** all and the wasters get everything, no wonder the country is in the ****!!

the pic with the girl hanging of the war memorial!!! that just made me angry!!
what an inconsiderate piece of ****, disrespecting a memorial of the dead of what our grandfathers fought for!

agree again!!!

agreed.

I'm totally with you mate, alot of folk from my class at high school are still at uni after 8 years as they are either over qualified with stupid degrees or they are just taking the country for a ride to have more party time!!

Also half the folk at my work say "I have a degree" and they cant even spell their name! they work here with me in the holiday camp civil service and you dont even need GCSE's to work here! they even say themselves Uni was a waste of time or they only went to party!!

Uni should be for people like yourself Cal who are actually being sent by their work to work towards a proper qualification or for medicine and important things like that!!!

X2 that is moronic

I'm a student too had enough of just working in a takeway and my dead end day job, but now I am studying graphic arts as I want to work in the field of magazine editorial. I don't get student loan I payed my fee's through some of my savings and the sale of my eg6 how I miss it =[ and I know its a sterio type the average student but to escape jobs we hate some of us need qualifications just to be even considered for an interview, luckily I only got one year left in may. Luckily I dont have to pay these new fee's but I feel sorry for the other people I my position next year, I just about made my fees this year.

I agree with what they are protesting against, why should student be paying for the defecit in caused by the previous government whilst scottish uni is free aswell?

i just hate the way they are going about it and those pictures just prove what ignorant bastards they can be, but don't forget not all of them are like that.

just my two cents :)

Everyone says this. We all have to pay, and that's that, no point being a bitch and whining that it's not your fault.

true that we do all have to pay, but they aren't tripling tax etc. like they are with student fees, and im not bothered either way i'll just pay it if i end up going uni it's just a pain in the arse
