me any my brother are wanted to go on a track day becuase we go to germany, and we are thinking of going to bedford autodrome as it is close by and is meant to be suprisingly good!

but what our main concern is they have a db limit of 87db! currently im running a spoon n1 and he is running a j's racing 60rs.

but isnt 87db a bit low ?

and how is this db measured etc ?

apparently the irish government are revising the nct same as english mot and the legal db for road use is going to be 70 db which is very low. could be all rumours but who knows with the way they are clamping down on performance cars these days. i learned this in college as we deal with loud machienery every day.

0db lowest sound you can hear
30db whisper
40db rustling leaves
50 db refridgerator running
60 db average conversation level
danger zone 80 db+

115db chainsaw

threshold of pain is 130db
140db jet take off/ shot gun

an increase of 3db represents a doubling of the noise level
maby you can compare these sounds to your exhaust obviously wont be accurate but it will give you an idea.

Are you sure its 87db? Last I checked it was 100db.

im fairly sure its 87db but not 100%

how is it measured is it a fly by at a certain amount of revs ? or static ?

87db is low for an "airfeild" TBH mate!

I dont know the db limits of bedford myself, but i would bet it is higher than 87!

It is messured diffrently at diffrent places mate, fly by or static @ 3/4 rev's!

I took my clio to bedford and it made 94db and passed.

They do static and if you fail that they sometimes allow a drive by as an alternative. If you have an N1 you will be wanting a silencer in

Airfields i know of are usually 102db.
So are most circuits.

Some circuits are 98db
Crofts next day is 88db!

Just check on the registration form before booking the day what the limit is.
Also depends on the day and who is hosting the day, as some "loud" days are usually allowed.

BTW my standard ek was 86db at 6,000rpm static no way will you pass or come close to that.
Its measured by standing half a meter from the back of the exhaust at a 45 degree angle to it and the driver holding the revs at 75% or the range.

^obviously that depends on what circuit you are at.

i thought they were louder than that, thats what i got told and it put me off getting one

with de-cat its quite loud on idle but nothing like the spoon on chat it sounds awesome after fitting the highflow cat i found the exhaust note to be much cleaner and the car felt a bit quicker, you sure your not getting mixed up with the 60r which is just straight threw system they are fooking loud!!!

It's sad. They aren't doing it to the same extent here in the states but it seems like they just bury you guys in taxes, restrictions, and government. I feel bad for you guys. We're headed that way too with Obama in office...god I hate taxes. I drive around with a decatted stroked B16B with a Apex'i WSII exhaust and it's still pretty loud but it doesn't irritate folks unless I get into VTEC.

hm think the levels in Cyprus is 101 for normal car and 103db for track cars i curently have a straight thru bd spe 3 exhaust and i make 117 with silencer and 139 without lol;p

Without silencer mine came out at 102db, with silencer came out at 93db. Lucky me, as it failed without.

Just watch though, I wouldn't fancy running a car at big revs with a silencer in the exhaust for an extended period

Have heart of exhaust valves melting in the worst cases :(

Yeah the car doesnt feel too good either. It created alot of pressure around the backbox and caused cracking around the welds that hold the tailpipe tip.

Didnt realize it could casue exhaust valves to melt

at anglesey today, on booking told limit was 105db which is big part of why i booked as knew teg was loud

got there and limit was 95db

mine measured at 115db, put bung in and 96db so was let on

did siting lap and pulled bung out for rest of day and was fine
