No sorry dude wasn't aimed at your missus! Just in the general populus. I expect thanks to you she knows more than the average Joe!

My ex hated my 9 but loved the R34 (though only off boost)

My mum and sister also hate the 9 as they think its old and loud. Mum keeps asking why I don't buy something nice like a Golf

My mum always gets me with the "Golf or A3", Well used to with my EJ9, She now has an anniversary EP3 so can say nothing :nice:.

My gf hates my 9 and every nice car we see she says 'why don't get one of those instead' or 'why don't you sell it and then we can go on holiday'. She'll never learn

If you have a old normal civic/Clio/Astra LEAVE IT STD
Save your money and buy a decent car.

Theres a few near me 1.6 Astra - "Buy tacky wheels, put some fake carbon on ect"
Just making yourself look stupid.

I Think I did it right, old Mazda 323, Micra, hit 27 - Clio 172 then EK9.
Spent a good wedge on it and why? didn't polish turds.

See, i kinda dissagree with that...I have an old civic and i guess is would be considered a turd in your book (ej9). But i enjoy spending a wee bit of money on it, makes my car a bit more individual and more fun to drive.

Not having a dig at you btw, read your other post in the thread and i agree with most of them :p

That's a very narrow minded approach to have. What if they can't afford the insurance of a higher powered car? Or heaven forbid, they actually like their modifications? Car modifying is far too broad a subject to have such a black and white opinion. Naturally it's yours and you're entitled to it, but I disagree :)

Nothing makes us different. If someone thinks we are boy racers or ricers, then that is what we are. They just highlight themselves as being a bit ignorant.

The joke is on them.

I am the type not to care what other people think, they are entitled to their own opinions, I drive my car because I enjoy driving it, not to impress others, My ex loved my EJ9 and even when I wanted to sell it once for a EP3, she said no as you see them everywhere, its chavvy and ain't as good looking, girl knows her stuff huh ;)

I dont think ive ever heard of anyone who drives being refered to as a "ricer" in the uk.The u.s maybe.

I think most people who have no intrest in cars and just use them as a method of getting from A to B refer to people who modify them as "boy racers".

IMO there are two types of people who mod cars: Boy racers & Enthusiasts. a boy racer is some plank in an old vauxhall wearing a baseball cap at a daft anngle with wolfrace alloys, powerflow exhaust and blue LED's evrywhere getting up your arse in a line of traffic in a 30 zone. An enthusiast is someone who gets a car and modifys it tastefully with a specific goal in mind.

Knowing the difference keeps me happy.

Again, that's a bit narrow minded to label everyone in an old Vauxhall as a boy racer?
It tends to be people who aren't into cars, and don't see the point in modifying that use it as a derogatory, stereotypical label. Much like calling someone a goth for wearing black etc. as already said, it's just ignorance.

People who put cheapo worthless stuff such as Ripspeed, Wolfrace and whatever other crap is avaliable has no clue in cars, and those are the people who thrash it around car parks, trying to get the rear out on a FWD car and do skids, I have seen it many times and it makes me laugh, they are the defination of chav in a ricer car,

I built my EJ9 for power and handling, with alot of genuine parts such as Regamaster alloys, MeisterR coilovers, OEM looking exterior, etc with no expense spared including a soon to be B18C-R lump, as above when you got a goal in mind you want to achieve in a car and actually drive it for you, then I call that a genuine enthuiast.

Where did i say evryone who drives an old vauxhall is A boy racer? I was Just trying to give a slightly humerous example and cunmon they are Usualy the car of choice for local "hard men".

I'd say "a boy racer is some plank in an old Vauxhall" covers it? but tbh, it does tend to be Corsas around here. And every one with an exhaust is a "valver" supposedly. We could be here debating what a boy racer and an enthusiast is all day, but it's a subjective thing. To me an enthusiast could be someone who doesn't spend a penny modifying a car, because that could be deemed sacrilege. Instead they keep it mint and original. You get chavs in Nova's, but also enthusiasts who wouldn't dare alter a Nova Sport. Swings and roundabouts really!

I agree with this, it's all about having a purpose. When I finally get my car on the road I'm going to wear a suit whenever possible. Smash people's pre conceptions!
