What makes us different to Ricers and Boy racers

I dont think ive ever heard of anyone who drives being refered to as a "ricer" in the uk.The u.s maybe.

I think most people who have no intrest in cars and just use them as a method of getting from A to B refer to people who modify them as "boy racers".

IMO there are two types of people who mod cars: Boy racers & Enthusiasts. a boy racer is some plank in an old vauxhall wearing a baseball cap at a daft anngle with wolfrace alloys, powerflow exhaust and blue LED's evrywhere getting up your arse in a line of traffic in a 30 zone. An enthusiast is someone who gets a car and modifys it tastefully with a specific goal in mind.

Knowing the difference keeps me happy.

spot on! but where do the 'max power' modders come into this?? enthusiastic boy racers?? :D

See, i kinda dissagree with that...I have an old civic and i guess is would be considered a turd in your book (ej9). But i enjoy spending a wee bit of money on it, makes my car a bit more individual and more fun to drive.

Not having a dig at you btw, read your other post in the thread and i agree with most of them :p

The silver civic ? That looks ace

There will always be a difference of opinion towards cars or styles people don't like. I despise 1.2 Corsa's (even though I've owned five B's) with big wheels but that's pretty much the first thing people do after passing their test? I know my taste was god ******* awful when I first got the pink license  I hate (including but not limited to):
Rat look
Dub
ScEnE
Big kits
Big wheels on small cars

And I know a lot of folk who hate Honda's and call me a boy racer because I have a loud exhaust. It's a subjective thing!

Haha cheers man, yeah, thats the one. You've prob seen it on FB. Shame it doesnt have the power to match! But my point was about the whole polishing a turd thing, i guess standard ej9's can be considered turds :p

i dont care what people think of me, they only moan about us because we are easy targets to the police.
me and a few of my mates all go to some little car park out the way at night just to talk, but yet the police are there all the time saying 'we make noise' when they start looking at our cars they notice we are enthusiasts. corsa vxr, punto turbo, focus st ect ect, one thing i always say is 'if i was a boy racer and making all this 'noise' you really think ill still be sat here and not smashing my car around?
then they seen our point and go.
sorry for the rant!!

To the average man in the street the EK9 is chav. It is basically a done up Civic at the end of the day with stickers and spoilers and usually a really loud exhaust also.

Also, Civic's seem to be one of the chav chariot's of choice at the moment. You see them all the time with the latest 'scene' tacky mods. The average person won't know the difference.

to me, Ricers are overthe top bodykits that dont do nothing. Dont help with downfourse.

Boy racers are ones that make over modders look bad because they customise the outside of thier car and race around on the streets

Going to be selling my ek9 soon as i just feel its too chavvy and i look like a 17 yr old boy racer in it :( bad times...

Really ricer is more commonly used in america tbf, labelling it on honda drivers generally because of how loud and raspy it sounds with an exhaust. Fair play seeing as theyre all into V8 grunt and supercharger whines.

Imo a general boy racer isnt about which type of car your drive or how it is modified but infact HOW YOU DRIVE IT. I like to think people who stick on cheap halfraud wheels/ugly bodykits/neons/tons of stickers just actually have a bad taste in modifying. Its the ones who do burnouts/handbrake turns or drive very fast around carparks/town centre that i would label a boy racer. Yes generally it is the corsas or saxos labeled as a boy racer/chav since theyre cheap to buy on the market and more appealing to chavs but you can still mod one in the right way and drive sensible and itll still get attention the right way.

But that doesnt mean folk who drive jap cars arent boy racer. Not digging at you Rippu but ej9s can be labeled as boy racer since a full decat on that is stupidly loud. Was in town yesterday after the cruise and there was one ej9 with an exhaust. Drove away from Blyswood bouncing of the limiter in first, it was asbo loud. Also i believe one mr2 up at the cruise started up and decided to just rev and make a whole lotta noise. For me, i simply view a boy racer as a individual who looks for attention but in the wrong way.

would i be right in saying RICE is an actual term..

Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements..

as in looks fast and goes slow..

Nothing makes us different. If someone thinks we are boy racers or ricers, then that is what we are. They just highlight themselves as being a bit ignorant.

The joke is on them.

THIS !!!!

Also i think the term BOY RACER has to be used carefully..

i saw some lads pimpin it up in a 335I Bmw... they were boy racers... BUT they happened to have a very rich parent.. they are still boy racers .. so does it really matter what car you have to suit this term.

as to say he is a boy racer because of the car he drives is as ignorant as people who think we are them ;) so i think it can relate to the person also.

EG. i once spoke to a few guys at work.. Speaking about cars and the parts on my car at the time, When i mentioned air filter / Induction kit.. they said Oh yeah like KandN and Pipercross.. and when speaking about exhausts they had only really heard of - Scorpion / mongoose/ peco and such... even though one claimed to be into Jap cars..
just by those names ( yeh they make some good stuff ) but they have clearly seen brand names and just related to them..

they were boy's who thought because they had a cheap pipercross filter they were racers - Ooooocsh

To the majority of people an ek9 is a loud white civic, which perfectly fits the description of a boy racers car unfortunately.

As thy become cheaper its only going to get worse.

Which most older people do. The amount of times that pensioners stop and shake their head at me when I'm doing 30mph is unbelievable!

Haha I get that driving at 30 n they shake their head as you go past or they stop n staire for ages

Lol this isn't aimed at you dude but as if i give a **** if people shake their head at me.. I didn't buy my car for people to put their thumbs up at me as i honestly couldn't give a **** lol..

My car is for me so the only person it has to impress is ME..

TBH this sounds harsh but i think people need to grow up and stop worrying about what other people think... Basically i believe if you are driving around and wanting everyone to look at your car and go " Oh nice car " then infact you are a boy racer looking for attention.. haha

Boy Racer and proud.

In slow moving traffic in town the other day, some old guy smacked the window on my car. I rolled down the window to ask what was his deal. He proceeded to ask if my car was "one of those loud ones".

"Yes Sir" I replied. He then went off on a rant about how I was a bad person and was ruining the country. Finally, before slapping my window again, he went on his way.

I'm not sure but I think I smashed the rev limiter before I got to the next set of lights.

I think we are going through a period where the typical chavs are rolling in EK's its only a matter of time until they move onto newer cars and our glory will be restored. I much like the position the EF is in now!

myself coming from the renault 5 gt turbo side of things i used to get labelled a chav and boyracer but the truth was my gt turbo was standard looking even down to the 13inch wheels and was mostly driven in a repectable manner

there will always be ignorant people, you will never change them, so just keep doing what your doing

Me too, are you still on the rtoc?

No offence taken :) as I agree whole heartedly. If I gave a **** I wouldn't drive a bright yellow, extremely loud car!
