Who owns/made EK9.org

Well I'm the right person who can answer this answer completely :)

In March of 2006 I bought a 1999 EK9, IBC Japan to be exact, they send me the car to Miami (where I lost advan rg wheels, ohlins suspension and some other goodies that where inside the car). I received the car 6 months later!!

Then I decided to join popular forums of that time, I wanted to learn about the EK9 so when it arrived I knew a lot about it. I remember I joined honda-tech.com and superhonda.com, well the people there treated me like ****, specially in superhonda.com, I even have to take a photo with my cell phone with my name on a blank paper saying, hello superhonda.com RVM here, so they can believe I had a EK9.

After searching in forums 90 % of the information I found was of conversions, specially EJ6 to EK9, a lot of people call them EK9, but they where just EJ6 with $5000 of ek9 parts on it, but for me Honda created the EK9, so in my opinion that was not a EK9. So I started translating Japanese pages to find accurate information, and started to create a .DOC library of ek9 information and photos.

I'm a member since 2002 of a a popular forum in my country, since I'm a server administrator, (thats what I do for a living) I usually helped the owner of that forum in server issues, so I was very familiar with vbulletin (ek9.org forum software) technical requeriments and structure, but I was not a programmer (PHP) or a graphic designer. I have the idea to build a EK9 specific forum so I registered the domain EK9.org in April of 2006.

I created a simple .html page with a B16B motor with the text, coming soon, and my email.

In July of 2006 I recieved a email, I reall don't remember where that guy was from, I'm 90% sure he was from Cyprus, and he wrote me a email telling me that he was looking forward for the site because he wanted to find out information of the B16B and he found none on the internet.

So this is where everything started, I decided to mount the forum, and I finished the forum structure on the 25 of August of 2006. The site was crap lol, the colors, logo and everything showed the visitors that I was a newbie on forums.

Check out a screen shot on how it looked:

I made the logo with photoshop, UGLY logo...

One of the big problems I faced, was that my first language is not English, so I made a lot of spelling mistakes, in the screen shot above, check out how I wrote Exhaust, Exaust lol! but I remember that I wrote articles with a Spanish / English dictionary with me.

The site started to receive visits all around the world, my original idea was to attract people from Japan, but no luck.

Then I started to receive visits from the UK, I didn't know that people in the UK used RHD cars, so there was a big opportunity there. And people started joining the forum. Also people on the USA started to join, the big advantage I had is that I had a EK9 parked at my garage, so if anyone wanted help I just take my camera out to the garage and shoot some photos. :)

Then Neo and Mint from Scotland joined, they helped me a lot, Mint even shared photos when he visited Spoon Sports in Japan, and Neo helped me recommend the forum to a lot of people in Scotland, and he also gave me suggestions on what I should add to the forum.

In December of 2006 blinx9900 joined the forum, and he is one of the best contributors to the site, he is a living Honda Bible lol, and thats what the site needed, since my english is not that good specially in technical stuff, he help me cover that and his Honda knowledge is by far superior than me, so we started (with the help of Dino-Spumoni and otherS) helping everyone that joined. My purpose was that EVERY thread in this forum, created to ask a questions, it has to be aswered, even if I have to read a book, I try to help everyone.

In March of 2007 I paid a graphic designer to make a logo, and to help me the appropiate color combination and came out with this:

The site now looked better :nice:.

I June of 2007 I attended a SEO (Search engine optimization) conference in Miami, and after months of hard work I was able to position the forum in Google with the keyword ek9. That conference helped me BIG TIME to make this forum big.

In 2008 the forum had some big changes specially in design and structure, since my skills in the forum software are better, right now EK9.org runs on a custom theme made by me and with the help of a lot of friends that work as graphic designers.

Raging Angel and Mfactory are the new members of the EK9.org contributors family, they help a lot of members with their honda experience.

As the forum suffered a lot of changes, so do I, right now I drive a 1998 EJ6, since in my country RHD are not legal, and all I can say is that the 1999 EK9 I had was the best honda I've ever had in my life :nice:.

We also are glad to have members wit EJ6, EJ9, EK4 and any other honda here, you're more than welcome! :nice:

One of the most amazing facts here is that we usually ban no more than 2-5 users each year, there is not need to! (of course we ban hundreds of spammers hehee)

This forum was created by me, but because of the help of everyone here, the forum now grows almost 400% each year and I hope we make this site bigger and bigger until we need 5 servers to handle ek9.org traffic
