Hi guys

We think my B18C is over fueling aswell as burning oil.

On the road it burns approx 1litre of oil every 1000 miles with normal driving. No biggy i track it anyway so unless it gets worse will leave that for now.

However after only a few miles of driving i notice black spots over my bumper and boot which gradually gets worse and worse. Now surely this much is not the 250ml of oil over a tank full covering my boot?

Someone else mentioned to me that my cars IS overfuelling. I get approx 300 miles to 40 litres of fuel which is fine....

Mods

Stock B18C

Stock intake
Spoon Elbow
Spoon filter
Cold air feed
Mugen 4-2-1
Spoon B pipe
Spoon N1
Baffled decat

No ECU mods.

I do notice sometimes lots of banging and popping on the overun.

Petrol is 99 V Power.

Arround the exhaust gets very sooty and black.

Thats not good mate, so weird how you have already rebuilt it, etc and look after it so well! hopefully you get to the bottom of this soon! :)

a decent map will get your feuling right

owerfeuling will lose power over optimum AFR

ecu should be next on your list

all b engine type r ecu's are working rich.

how is your temp ?
if is very low it might run a little more rich than normal.

how dangerous can that be anyway ?

Very good advice there!:nice:

I had this same issue with mine when i was still running on the stock ITR ECU, fellt like i was forever cleaning the back of the car!

Now with my hondata & WILL tune i have never seen one black spot!:secret:

I never did get to the bottom of what was causing it!:nerv:

My car was over fuelling, when i had the oil burning problem on my a/f metre was reading about 10.1 should be about 14.1 ish.

My car does this too...Dont think its anything to worry about.

Infact...i Think its a sign of "Amazing"

ive heard of spoon ecus doing the same, slight smell of over fueling plus pops on over run, again b18 run rich

but id say the amount of oil your going thru is a bit much and you should worry about that

examples like this make it clear why its good to have afr monitoring for both peace of mind and actual real world data on what actually happening within motor, prob long list of could be's but 02 sensor prob near top of list ? how old is it, renewed lately ?

oil burning greatly reduces life of 02 sensors

post conclusion once resolved ian

its because there is no cat on the car. its job is to burn any un-burnt gasses out of the engine hence the black spots on the bumper. with the mods ian has done to his car and with out a mapped ecu it will do this alot! my K20 has a de-cat, also has k-pro and i still get black spots on the back of my bumper.

also it looks worse coz its a white car!lol

i run decat and fully mapped car, no black crap at all on rear lip and my car burns oil, a decat does cause little overfueling but not that much

Thanks guys. I did it also with my B16b but not as bad. The map must be very different on the B18's.

Time for some management i think....

What ecu are you going to use?

To remap your car, you must.

Yoda. :p

The way he worded it mirrors the way which Yoda out of Star Wars would speak :blabla:

IF your car is running overly rich then this could be what is contributing to the engine problems.....

A dangerously low AFR can cause cylinder wash which would destroy the seal of the rings and cause excessive oil burning

I'm no expert when it comes to internals and engine builds, but have you had the car on a RR to see how it's running and the AFR checked?

As mentioned though, Decat will allow more crap through and cause this also
