DC5=disapointment

very different comments i see, but myself I prefer the DC5, as i have had the chance to drive one.

I like the DC5 more refine feel, with suspension tweak, it handles just as well...at first i was at bit skeptical but now i see why the DC5 lot praise a fast road setup.

there is no way a DC5 is slower than a EK9...maybe comparable to B18, but on equal terms...the K20 is for a fact faster (well maybe not UK Ep3..since i was supprise it didn't pull away from me the other day...)

anyway wanna swap (original poster)?

Nice! Someone agrees with me.

Stock for stock, mod for mod, EP3 is quicker than the 9. Regardless UK or JDM ver. This is ofcoruse talking about straight line drag. The upper gear ratios of the K20 is very short. From 3rd gear onwards, the difference shows.

But yeh, B18C EK9 is hard to go past unless you like a Type R Benz(DC5R). My garage has EK9, DC2R, DC5R and little bros FN2. When all these cars live with you, you slowly get to understand them and the differences between them all. Otherwise, sitting in a car for a 30min spin isnt going to tell you much except the mental comparison you have in your head at the time.

For me if I had to keep 2 cars, itd be the EK9 and DC5R. I would have said DC2R and DC5R but the fact that the 9 handles better and can be k20d' or B18C makes ek9 the better choice.

Peace

i know i sold it quick/didn't give it much time etc

but financial reasons came into account too..

i think the 9 is powerful enough for me although i'm tempted by a dc2!

Between the DC2 and EK9, the only thing better with the DC2R is the B18C. And some may say looks.

EK9 does become slow eventually when your used to it. But for me, my stock DC2R makes my modded ek9 feel slow. :(

yeh id go for a really clean dc2 if it was me!! love the b18!!!

I really wana ride in a DC2 to get a comparison against the EK9. I wouldnt be inclined to change though as i love the EK9 to bits.

B16B only doesnt feel adequete until you have had a B18 dumped in her. Going back in a b16 you straight away feel the lack of pull from the engine. Alot more of an empty feel.

You dont buy an EK9 for drags anyway unless you stupid. But once you have the EK9 for all the right reasons, making is faster is not a problem.

well some of you are just lucky. i havent been in a ek9, dc2 or dc5. only been in a ep3.
it felt **** hot! i loved it. i cant wait to get a ek9. by what dan says i might not get mods for the b16b and just do a b18 swap :)

Good choice :nice:

As standard the EK9 is VERY VERY good. :drive:

i dont know how much a swap is though. if i was to sell my b16b after the swap what sort of loss am i looking at

thats true mate. got atleast a year and half till i can get a quicker car

^i had a b16b on a eg hatch,i can realy feel the kick on the vtec.now i have a stock dc5R (jdm) i can say is that the vtec is more smoother when it kicks it in.for sure i will gonna feel the vtec kick on it if i started to modify it.
ek9 is the best chasis and in looks, why you should stick to b16b or drop a
b18c on a ek9 where you can drop a k20/24 on it.:nice:ftw!

i should imagine its a lot of hard work & twice as expensive:angry2:

also you would loose some of the ek9/dc2 rawness if you k20'd it.:drive:

VTEC kick is not good...smooth is good...more you modify the smoother it should be

What?! Thats BS! theres even more rawness with a jdm K20a in it. The power, sound and torque is just amazing! Its like a B18C on s t e r o i d s

The only reason why you feel a kick is because the 1.6L has jack all under 6000rpm but works better in high rpm. The 1.8L will feel softer again since theres more bottom and mid end before vtec kicks. K20a kicks in just as hard as B18C but not erupt like b16b.

But even though its erupt, its no where near in torque comparison. Thats what pulls you, the kick doesnt. lol

Personally i think the B16B restrics the EK9's potential. Its chassis deserves much more then B16 can offer it. Even the B18 doesnt feel like its bringing the full potential from the chassis.

K20a is obviously the best option, the figures alone show you that. BUT the key factor here is ££££....... Not everyone has or is willing to spend thosands on the conversion when the B18CR conversion cost me altogether £550. And i gained 25BHP staight up. And my B16B was nice and healthy.

So bang for buck B18 is more then worth doing. I think i would wet myeslf if i had a go in a K20 EK9 :p

Yeah thats just the thing...buying the K20a is only half the costs or even less. I'd rather turbo it for that kinda money, yields a lot more power and I reckon you should be able to build a reliable turbo setup for that money.

All the people saying about a B18 swap into an ek9, couldnt you just bore the B16 to a 1.8 for the same results? (sorry for going off topic)
