So i had an ep3 for 6 months, was a good car. put a smile on my face every time i took it above 5800rpm!
Got bored of the fact i saw about 10 of them everywhere i went, so thought i would be different.

so last week 12-5-09 i px'd it for a blue dc5. it was in very good condition (4b) with only 46,000 miles 2001 y reg.:nice:

to be honest it felt slower than my ep3 and the lsd took the fun out of cornering. the ep3 has great handling characteristics that i think the dc5 couldn't match. the dc5 had a lot more feedback but just felt really dull.

don't get me wrong I'm no STIG this is just my opinion, many people would disagree.

anyway i really want an ek9 having been in one before so you'll probably see me more & more on this site.:D

i know a couple of users on here already

anyway to summarise if your thinking about getting a dc5, imo just buy ep3 & stick some recaros in it...........better still keep the 9!!

Hi mate

i had an EP3 too and it handled great! felt quick smooth and quiet, then i lost my job so was looking for a car in the same catagory and found an EK9 but was scared it was going to be crap compared to my EP3 so anyway i got rid of it and got myself a facelift EK9 and from the moment i drove it away iv never felt so happy about a car EVER! its such a fun car to drive handles a hell of alot better than the EP3 and is faster too! and much more aggresive being a b series :) and much more RARE too :) so if you get an EK9 you will NOT regret it trust me :)

Ben

Right. Thats why the DC5R was 1 sec faster around Tsukuba. Anyway, you do get the nice ones and bad ones. The weight of both cars are similar with DC5R weighing in at 1180kgs. EP3 is 1200kgs+. DC5R also has 5hp more than the JDM EP3. But a whopping 20hp more than UKDM.

Personally, I'd prefer the DC5R over the 9. But yes it can't compare to the rawness of the 9 and DC2R.

Doesnt the EP3 have a torsion type sussy setup like FN2? I think thats says a lot there. Its all preference and on the street, theres not much difference between the 2.

Ben

U really think its faster? :D

Is it a B18C or B16B or stroked B16B?

jugbugz - no the ep3 has all 4 single struts and springs.

Hmm im not sure if he had the UKDM or JDM EP3.....

if its JDM EP3 then it would be faster than a B16B but UKDM is not faster :)

TBH I think a decent test drive in all the aforementioned cars would set anybodys mind at rest....

The EK9 & ITR DC2 are both true type-R Hondas; very raw & designed to be focussed as true driving machines....

The EP3 was a type-R for the UK masses...no LSD & no independent rear suspension. Goes well enough but not a match for the ITR or EK in the twisties. A bit too common for my liking too. Driven by too many people who have no idea about the true type-R ethos

The DC5 is just a wee-bit too grown up & civilized IMO. Sure its got more power & is smoother & more refined...but its heavier & perhaps that detracts from its appeal from the hardcore type-R owner used to an EK or DC2? Im sure a bit of tweaking works wonders on the K-series motor though...

I used to have an EP3 too. UK spec one.

Since getting my EK9 I don't even think about the EP3 anymore. The EK9 is so much more of a drivers car, there wasn't half as much feel through the steering in the EP3.

I would be tempted by a JDM EP though! lol

A DC5 would tempt me too, but I've never been in one so can't really comment. I do think the EK9 is quicker than your average EP3 though, it certainly feels alot faster. I don't imagine theres much in it though tbh.

True :D

I always thought the EP3 had torsion sussy. Dont really understand why they went Torsion for FN2, not only that but give it 100kgs more weight and only 1bhp increase. Bloody hilarious!

The rawness has definately been lost from the EK9 and DC2 days, but the k-series engine is the future.

Haha tell me about it, dont get me wrong the EP3 was a nice car but is nothing compared to the EK9 :)

and iv never driven a DC5 so i wouldnt know what they're like but im guessing with those extra horses and lsd it goes really well, and with those torque figures :nice:

wow thanks for the response guys!

just to clarify the uk ep3 DOES have independent rear suspension its the FN2 that doesn't!!

ep3 steering does lack feel but that adds to the fun, like i'm under steering but i'm not going to tell you, tap on the brake with the left foot & it brings it in nice & tight ;)

The EP3 does have independent rear suspension even the EP2 has it. Its only the new FN2 that has torsion bar rear suspension. The best thing about any car that has the K20 in it is the amount of torque they have over the B16b. An EK9 with a K20 most amazing!!

My apologies....I meant McPherson strut as opposed to Double Wishbone. The cars are less focussed in general IMO....& they are built in Swindon:shocked:

i assume you run it on super unleaded and not the really dull 95 unleaded

DC5'S LOOK good but are slow ive raced 3 and have beaten them by up to 8/9 car lengths they will always win out on top end but the way i see it is the dc5 and ep3 lost the rawness of the dc2/ek9

DC5 is more refined that the older R's like the DC2.

Sounds too me that your looking for frills. You like not having a LSD for the excitement of wheel spin and understeer etc. Can be fun, I know from experience but it aint fast.

on the flip side how does the s2000 compare to a dc5 or ep3. iv been saving up for a dc5 but from what has been said im going off the idea and looking into getting a s2000. i know the handling is very good on them but what about straight line speed are they faster than the dc5's and ep3's?
