My Milano Red EK4 Project

Dont use money on things thats not broken yet. You might need the momney for other bits on your ride.

I like this saying "If it aint broke, it aint worth fixing"

Looks like your putting alot of work into this, live a good project :nice: keep up the good work and updates :)

Ye im not going to now, Think it was of those perfectionist moments :p.

Christ you really are taking it apart man ha be all worth it in the end

Cheers guys.
Ye im definitely going for it now haha, Was a spur of the moment thing but looking at all the jobs i have to do it just makes sense to drop the engine and front and eventually the rear subframes out.
Once the Suspension components has been cleaned, painted, re-bushed, had new dampers/springs fitted and the shell has been painted and re-undersealed.

The chassis will be neary mint and hopefully give me a few years of trouble free motoring and to be honest i probably wont get rid of this car. Dew to it being a cat c i'll never get my money back but then what would be the point of selling a nearly mint car which i could get to perform almost as well as a ek9.

UPDATE

Made some more progress with the EK4 this weekend. First off I finished striping down all the front subframe, suspension and removed the steering rack.

Then me and my dad removed the gearbox and the rest of the ancillaries from the engine.

This is one of the many reasons i decided to remove the engine :nerv:

Also im now thinking about striping the head to give it a good clean after having a look at the exhaust ports and seeing a fair bit of carbon build up. (Dont know what you guys think)

Now that's finished I have all the suspension components boxed up and ready to be sandblasted down ready to be painted and re-bushed.

UPDATE CONTINUED (REST ON THE LAST PAGE)

Also drove down to Bath to see GramsN1 and his treasure trove of parts to pick up a rear bumper and lip but ended up coming home with a spoiler, 1" MC and servo aswell :p
Bumper and spoiler test fitted.

20120407_1752446.jpg

Happy with the look defiantly gives the car more presence and seprates it from all the normal run of the mill civics. (Even though it just looks like a normal 9)

Then carried on striping bits out of the bay.

20120408_1224011.jpg

Removed all the steel brake/clutch lines, Prop valve and ABS unit.

20120408_1433291.jpg

Also with abit of fiddling got the MC and Servo out aswell as the remaining parts of the PVC system.

20120408_1431391.jpg

Comparison between the ek9 1" mc/servo and the ek4 15/16" MC/servo. (Not really much to see to be honest :p)

(Points to who ever can guess which one is which haha)
20120408_1451581.jpg

So ended up with a slightly less cluttered bay.

Well cheers again for ready and tune in next week for more adventures of the Lambo green (ish) EK4 :nice:

UPDATE

Well thanks to the lovely April weather its been another slow month on the project so i thought i just do one update at the end of the month.

Well started off by taking the rocker cover off just to give the valve train a check out to see if anything is a miss. Luckily it all seems sound and surprisingly the cams look in responsible condition considering the car has done over 100,000 miles.

Also headed down my mates body shop to use his sand blaster so i could start preparing some of the front suspension parts so i can start painting them.

How they started:

Halfway through:

Some of the parts all cleaned and all ready for a final light sand then some nice gloss black paint, Amazed at how well the sand blaster removed over 14 years worth of rust and grim:

Finally got a nice day so made a good start on getting the rest of the car striped down. Started off getting the seats.

20120416_1714331.jpg

Then had a embarrassing 20 odd minute fight trying to get broke radio out with no radio keys :p
Finally got it out:

Also got going on removing the door cards. which came off nice and easy compared to the ones on my VW, and was greeted by this lovely site oh the joys of aftermarket alarms.

Finally the big one finished striping the engine bay and even manged to get the grinder to a few of the rust spots aswell before the weather turned again.

So that about sums up a months work unfortunately. Hopefully get some more done next month but we will have to see.

Thanks Robbie, Ye cant wait for when its done. I'm amazed at how well the sand blaster worked actually didn't think it would shift that much rust. Going to have to give a it a light rub down again as the rust has already stared to form again.

Loving the progress would love to strip and rebuild every part of my car

Thanks mate, Ye its lots of work but is nice to know that once its all done the car should hopefully be mint and give me some good trouble free years well thats the plan :D

Hey mate good to hear from you, Ye always better to reuse would have been a shame for you to scrap them just gutted the shell had gone. Looked at the pictures of your old car and if mine looks half as good as that i be happy so here's hoping :nice:

Was good to speak to you at Japfest Ill be keeping an eye on this sounds like it is going to be a good one.

Good to speak to you aswell mate, Car looked great out on track by the way.

UPDATE

Well has been another quite couple of weeks, and since the car wont be going to paint for another couple of months, I've decided im going to make the shell as good as i can so im going to do abit of stitch welding before i underseal it and paint it.
So today i started to get cracking on a long and tedious task, removing seam sealer.
Only managed to do the engine bay today but hopefully i be able to crack on with the boot and floor tomorrow.

So i went in with my trusty screw driver and heat gun to make a start.
20120518_141803.jpg

Actually i joke, wasn't as bad as i thought. Just heated up the sealer still it started to give off a little smoke then it just peels off with a little persuading from the flat head.
20120518_161434.jpg

Couple of hours of stop start work and i got the engine bay, camber arm mount and inside of the shock tower done.

Then a quick run over with the drill and wire wheel this is what im left with.

Still abit of sealer left but i get rid of that when i shot blast the engine bay.

Also bit of thanks to my dad as he finished cleaning and painting one of my Legend brake calipers which he did in his lunch break what a trooper :D

20120518_190834.jpg

Finally got a nice DC2 airbox thanks to Joe so i can start working out pipe lenght and width so i can make my induction system.

As per normal thanks for reading and check back soon :nice:

Thanks Jordan. Ye im going to prep the whole car but not until i can get it in my mates bodyshop so i got somewhere dry to do it.
Was debating whether to rebuild the engine or not but when the car was running it felt strong and with all the other thing i have to do it will just be a waste of money. All i'll do is de gunk the head i think.
