Please stop doing it guys

Love for cars change just as the situation changes. I don't support this thread as I think its the owners choice whether to break or not as nobody knows another persons situation.

As many people know, the car market is massively down. If a ek9s werent broken, then owners may be forced to value their car less, which will put the whole ek9 market down on a whole! Owners may also show neglect to the car, or in extreme circumstances, may be forced to do an insurance jobby etc..

Another thing, when a car is broken, the parts are sold all over, so parts can be more available and rare parts can be purchased. If no ek9s were broken, everything will have to be purchased through honda! On top of that, there are many other ek model civics which require the parts! I for 1 bought an ek9 and needed many stock parts to save it, now where would those parts be if ek9s werent broken? Should i put on inferior model parts to save costs?

Lastly, it will pretty much slow down, i think this is just a phase, itr's went through the same thing.

I'm with you Gav!! You can't drive half a 9!!! It's doing my ****ing head in too!!

We should set up a SAVE THE EK9 FROM EXTINCTION CHARITY!! Soon we'll be seeing a shed load of EJ's with B16b's and all kinds of Ek9 goodies as all the real 9's have been broken up. SHAME!!

Isn't everyone here meant to be an enthusiast?? Passionate about the 9? Breaking up a 9 does not show any passion.

When I mentioned this ages ago I got jumped on! You can't ban people breaking them bla bla bla

Now I'm having to consider it because I have in excess of £30,000 in my 9 and all of a sudden it a big no no.

Think about the fact that it may be a 9 shell but 90% of it's been changed to something else. Not much left of a 9 when I pull my parts off.

Now consider that £9500 tallied up to parts alone. I could sell my car for what £6? £6500 If I'm lucky?

I absolutely think lightly modded cars that can be returned easily or standard cars should not be broken on here.

But

highly modded
Crash damaged
Tatty
Or beyond repairs

Should be allowed to continue IMO

We should only be banning lightly modded and clean straight cars on here.

I find it a big shame to see all those cars broken.

But I am not for banning breaking cars on here! As some others mentioned, where would the OEM parts be we need or the nice after market parts that are affordable cause they're 2nd hand?

Besides that, who are we to decide what someone else should have to do with his/her car? I think it's even a bit arrogant to think we have the right to try to force people to do something else.

To be fair I also agree with this also it a very good point standardise cars should be stopped and as jw says id it's highly modded there isn't much left o the original 9 it's just sad to see enthusiasts getting to the point ty want to break the car :(

An I do t think people can slate people wanting to mod there ej9 to look like an ek9 not everyone can afford ek9's and there insurance :)

I don't see what the fuss is all about

Yes it's a shame to see a car parted out, however this does allow others to have the opportunity to own parts which may now be discontinued and/or hard to come by for a fraction of what these parts are worth new

You're not going to give a car away, it's obvious you're going to want to make as much money back as you can, be stupid not too!!

Situations change and sometimes force this unfortunate decision sadly

I totally agree Gav! I am on an ej9 for my 1st car and am scared that when I can eventually afford to buy and run and ek9 I wont be able to cause there will be so little left the price will be too much!
As said before I wish when people go to sell they should just sell the aftermarket parts and return it to standard for someone else to start again!

i agree about letting others enjoy their car's so passing on parts is good but If this continues, in years to come, the car's to buy will be the Ej9's that have all the parts from the EK9's....

Then buy a 9 now :) And if you can't, who are you to expect from someone to let thousands of euro's go? Cause that's the difference it can make for some people.

Just a thought... if say an ej9 has a shell swap for an ek9 shell, does it then become an ek9? even if it has a 1.4 engine still... In the same way an ek9 could have a k20 swap for better performance the 1.4 engine could be retained for say a young dude who wants insurance.

My point is that altho an ek9 may be broken if the shell is sold on and another car built with that shell it then becomes an ek9. After all its the chassis no. that counts right?

I guess the best way to deal with this is for the people who are against it, don't buy the parts! Then breaking them would become less profitable or not worth while! If everyones so against it, then i'd like to see them buy stock parts etc from honda!

Banning it is a retarded idea lol.

Keeps your precious EK9s on the road, reduces numbers so yours will go up in value if anything. My DC2 got broken as a half finished problem with what, £5k? I got just over 9 grand out of it. I won't think twice when I'm bored of the DC5, it is relaxing knowing that whatever I do to it only affects me, I won't have to explain why something is better to some tosser who has no idea what kind of car it is.

I know where you are coming from Gav but they are only cars. I do think it's a waste if they are mint so people should put them back to standard like I probably will when I sell.
As Steven said it also gives people the opportunity to buy some really cool parts.

yeah agree man, ok its better for the guys who have thier cars, as oem and aftermarket parts are available at good prices etc but all im saying is just a shame seeing so many of them being broken just now and perfectly good cars at that, just a pure waste if you ask me. Sadly the cars have dropped in price recently along with most other cars to be fair, and as mentioned hopefully things will pick up in the near future and people will start to see sense and stop ripping perfectly good cars to pieces.
Unless the car is stripped to a shell then someone uses that shell for a good purpose ie: building it back up to a good high spec 9 or whatever then yeah total waste of a good car.

I do see where you're coming from, I guess we're looking at it from complete opposite ends. Can you honestly say though that you would rather take 40% less and be happy in the knowledge that you kept one on the road? I couldn't justify it mate.

^^^ with a bit of luck mine will enter that category... might take me a while though as i'm working flat out to save up for engine parts

The person that buys it's for 40% less will then break it and make a quick buck out of it!
