Bit of a long shot but looking to do some work on my gearbox.
Ideally looking for short ratios 3,4&5 I can use in conjunction with my OEM 4.4 fd aiming for top speed of 130mph in 5th.
Just thought I'd see what's about before I look at other options.
Pm me with ratios and details if possible.
Thanks guys.

Hi
MFactory stuff defiantly does take my fancy but I was wondering if there are any built or slightly used boxes about that might save me some costs and time. Pm heading your way though as I might have to take this route. Thanks

I have a s4c with LSD with a mfactory 4.9 final drive make me an offer

We can supply you with a 98 spec gearbox with shorter 4th and 5th gears.

Matt

Cheers for the replays. Sorry I'm a bit slow replying. Plotting from Gran Canaria at the moment :p

You got your box all done then matt? I've got a 4.7 in my room at the moment but I'm planning on keeping. My b16b so wondering about somethibg a bit more serious and keep up with the rest of you running b18s :p

Yeah mines done mate i reckon put it in yours and will make the b16b a serious contender

even just swapping in a 4.7 FD helps the B16B out alot. a gearset would be immense! :nice:

I have had both, the 4.78 is a good upgrade but doesnt compare to a proper close ratio gearset.

With a gearset the car sounds like a motorbike changing gear when the ratios are close enough due to the smaller rev drop when changing gear

You do compramise a fair bit of top end and this can make long journeys very annoying at nearly 5k rpm on the motorway. Have a look at the m-factory gear calculator to see what speeds etc you will have in each gear by changing ratios before buying

I found that a 4.7 fd gave the same increase in acceleration from when I went to b18 for the b16b.
If you've got one sitting spare if get that fitted first, if you don't like it can always swap back when you fit a gear set.
Close ratios are amazing, the high revs is a down side even compared to a s4c with a 4.7fd.

Thanks for all the opinions guys I have a 4.7 sitting in my room right now but Im really tempted by the gearset I have been playing with the MFactory calculator and think I have an option I like but its all dependant on cost really. Very tempted to install the final drive myself and see how hard it is.

Tegiwa you have a PM with some ratios let me know what you can do ;)

Just a point... the gearset only works really well when it is matched to the track you regulary drive on .. otherwise it doesn't justify its cost over a 4.7FD

are the 4.7 really a good upgrade to the b16b? im fitting a box Friday for a trial run to compare against my 4.4 ..

exactley and a close gearset will rinse your fuel...maybe im getting old thinking of fuel haha!:secret:

Putting your interior in and thinking about fuel costs, hmm I worry for you Matt.

I can see where your coming from, if I’m going to go through all the effort of getting my box rebuilt I just want to make sure its worth the investment, since I’m sure I’m going to need some syncros. 4.7 definatly seems to be the option most people prefer though. I do have the counter shaft and ring from a DC2 but still need the other bits.

This has been brought about because I had a chance to buy a box but lost out and having been in a car fitted with a gear set (admittedly driven by a much better person than me) I can't get the thoughts out of my head.
