takata hype...???

I think they're overpriced and a crap colour, wearing a red tshirt with one makes you look like a Christmas tree haha

I bought one new then swapped it with my mate for my black omp 801 within 2 weeks

Ok, I'm a biologist so I can explain it in the terms of '' natural selection''. If there was no hype we would see top of the range harnesses from all brands relatively evenly distributed across the civic ''population''. I am yet to see a top of the range Sabelt or Schroth in one of our cars, so there must be other reason than random selection for such a high prevalence of Takata, we call this ''selection pressure''. This could be explained by the ''hype'' around Takata, people are not looking for a high end harness, they're looking for the brand and since only top end product is available that's what they buy, however a study would need to be conducted to prove this. :D
Again, I am not against Takata, there's nothing wrong with buying stuff just because it's fashionable, we all do it!

Im not reading all six pages of this. But in my opinion they are fantastic harness', And are no doubt great quality. BUT they are Overpriced. But hey, if you had people who would spend £500+ on one harness why would you them sell for less???

Im happy with my TRS

The quality is not that important anyway as a lot of folk dont even set them up the right way.

My £100 TRS harness feels alot better quality than my mates takata, and the colour doesnt clash with everything like his does!

Personally i wouldn't buy takatas even if they were £100!!

It's down to the person...
Some poeple buy Trs some poeple buy takatas

Some buy prada clothing some buy kappa trackies

It's just one of those things, you're paying for the name and the fact that all of the Honda scene kids are willing to pay silly money for a harness just because it's got the word Takata written on it, supply and demand!

TAKATA is the top end of the market, and doesnt cater for low end market harnesses like TRS or Sabelt. The better quality Srhroth and Sabelts etc for Rally use are very expensive too. I have some brand new TAKATA's for sale on here. I know I wont get what they are worth (450+ for 4-Point / 540 for 6-Point) So I have them priced accordingly to sell quick in the UK market.

Takata are top end, but when I compared my omp 801 4 point rally one with the aircraft buckle. There seems to be little difference between the 2, both feel just as solid yet there is a massive price difference. I think takata 4 points really should be about £200

I think takata's are well over priced, colour is down to personal taste.
Yet people buy them because it is a top of the range product and it is down to takata to set their prices.

It's the same principles why Armani are seen as top quality fashion, and set high prices for their garments when you can easily purchase another item elsewhere which looks just as nice. People buy it for the name and be recognised for sporting the good stuff.

You can purchase other makes of harnesses but it's down to what car scene your into, as mentioned before, most jap cars modified with brides an Recaros. And euro cars like vw with corbreau seats.

You can say that takata's are seen as the cool kids around the block and i wouldn't say they are the 'best' but they are very highly rated.

This can be applied everywhere, iPhone vs android phones. Alot of would argue that the iPhone is the best phone about. And some will say its overrated. Down to personal opinion, and those who thinks the iPhone is overrated will go buy an android phone, which will do the same job as an iPhone.

Everything in life is about the supply, demand and quality.
The same reason why you'd shop in superdry/g star/armani over primark :/

that above is well said .
Im not a mega snob and im not made of ££ but I do like nice jeans ,il wear diesel/superdry g star ,because yes there a good brand and look good

But again with my car because its jdm Im sort of swayed towards jdm products and brands I admit it !

ie .I woudnt put a mongoose or magnex on my ek9 nor would I put cobra seats in it that most people put in saxo`s

was thinking other day of harnesses and yes trs may be as good and cheaper
but when I watch best motoring and all the drift series vids

it just makes me think ...I want takata`s they look cool :))

lol at ^^^^
I never said that they were a crap harness or 'bashed' their reputation, i was mearly trying to find out how they can stick an extra 200- 300 quid on the competitors price when they are clearly NO better. Its not like they are made out of some super titainium kevlar thread weaved by romainian mountain goats in the andes.

If you wanted to find that out then you should have emailed the company themselves and asked why they sell them so expensive! I do agree that they are overpriced tho, like alot of JDM stuff.

Just to prove a little bit what tama is saying isn't just opinion or backed by a hidden agenda...

A few facts i found in 5 minutes

The 1st seat belt in japan was made by takata..

The company make alot of safety fabric's such as the material if life boats, space suits, jump suits, diving suits, helmets, boots.
they make steering wheels along with the airbag, they also make curtain, passenger and side impact airbag's
They also make the inflators for airbags along with the electrical components in the airbag safety systems. along with the seatbelt pretensioner system.
they make alot of the impact system sensor's which let the airbag off. and are now making lane change sensor's for new car's with lane change alarms on them.
They make interior trim's, seats's, arm rest's, sun visors..
Most of these are for big commercial business's

OH and they also make harness's . but last year they're sales were NO where near as many seatbelts as they sold airbags..
they're main clients for their seat belts are Honda, however, this is closely followed by Toyota, FORD and GM !!!!!!! then closely followed by Daimler..

I see a few mentioning Schroth, takata are buying out schroth.
takata is also in talks with BAE about buying the safety side of the company from BAE systems.. which we all know is an aerospace company who hold alot of the contracts with the R.A.F

What i have learnt is that yes they are expensive and yes people brand them as JDM points and whatever, but it seems they are one of the biggest safety companies in the world.

Personally i think you are buying Piece of mind when it comes to companies like takata .... Just the same as buying suspension parts from KONI....

TAKATA'S ARE MINT!!

you either like them or u don't!

I know i'd like a set evan though they're overpriced but then again so are spoon products..

It's life, get over it.. it's like sayin why buy an adidas jacket for £50 wen u can get a jacket from primark for £10. everyone has their own opinion!
