takata hype...???

Ill be smashing HANS or Schroth in mine an use the change ill have for a couple of track days :D
A lot of people appear to think i was slating takata as shite, inferior, not great etc but i wasnt, anything thats designed to save lives can only be a good thing, what i was originally getting at was why everyone i speak to seams to jack off at the thought of having a pair, hence why they are 'hyped' up.
I blame it on the yanks and their fookin 'jdm yo' must have wish lists!

Wow calm down guys! It's just a piece of fabric that goes over your shoulders, sometimes between your crotch and designed to keep you safe in a crash..

As long as they are FIA approved they all do the same job!!

If you want to hate then hate on the Saxo/106 boys who stick Luke harnesses and fixed bucket seats in a 80hp death trap!

Prices go up when safety has to be R&D around the world, not to mention this is not all they do...if you all would just look and read you may understand. This is no small company.

To be honest with you lad, you know those horrible standard seat belts that come in the car in the first place, you would want to see the "R&D" that goes into those its mad, and as for being FIA approved, it doesnt matter if its black white green red yellow pink (sound a bit like Micheal Jackson lol), it still comes under the same FIA test as they are a separate body who dont care about colour creed etc, so if it passes it passes no matter what make it is!! its approved and safe!! then its up to you what you want after that!! I do really like takata but they are priced ridiculously, the main thing i found with some was the strap widths, I'm a rugby player so have broad shoulders and some companies only make the little skinny one which dont feel comfortable so I needed a company that made wide ones and yes takata does but I wnated to save a few bob so bought schroth which arnt cheap either think they might have even been close if not the same as takata lol...rant over :)

Takata also makes stock seatbelts for cars, as a matter of fact the 8 gen Civic has Takata made seatbelts!

i agree with what jdp says really, but if u dont agree with the hype just dont buy them. alot of the british drift teams use takatas.

and takata cant make that many aircraft belts as martin baker produce their own for military uses.

i think they look sweet and there is a hype, i just dont care that much as long as im fastened to my seat its all good

You could say the same about alot of things people buy for their car, house, clothes ect

i guess a point people are missing is that IT IS possible to buy something others regard as hype, and not actually give a F*** about fashion or hype or any of it. there is something called simply wanting to buy something from someone you trust. now just because you don't trust something doesn't mean someone else cannot.

its seems alot trust willans and schroth... fair enough. let others trust takata !

I have to agree with the OP in the amusement some people will spend 2-3x the price just because of a brand of harness. An FIA approved harness is an FIA approved harness. I sell 4/5/6 point FIA approved harnesses for less than £100 in the standard colours. I run them in my track car and will be fitting them to my race car too. I'm more than happy with the tags they come with, I know they will do exactly what they're expected to do in an accident - which is what they're for.
Wearing harnesses on the street is pretty dangerous anyway. If they're done up as they should be they limit your movement and vision as you cant lean forward to see around things.
Also, if you're in an accident you may have problems in getting out of them due to the design and being pinned to the seat. If you have an incident on a track, you're almost guaranteed you'll be out of the car in pretty much any situation in around 2 minutes... on the road you could be sat there for 15-20 minutes before the fire service arrives with the equipment to cut you out.

And to add, if there slack so you can see then you might aswell not wear them at all:nono:
