Terry’s EM1 project

Less of the Attitude. It was months ago I asked you. I forgot it was a simple question. Should look good when it's done
What attitude? If what I typed upset you, unfortunately thats up to your interpretation.

Parts came in from Japan. Pair of handbrake cables that'll hopefully fix my imbalance issue. It was cheaper to buy genuine than spurious... Also got the security bolts that hold the ignition barrel to the column. The bolt that holds the steering wheel hub in place. A few other small bits as well.

So after some late nights and a lot of browsing through old forum threads, I found out that the receiver isn't coded like the key and ECU. What I did after was I plugged the new barrel into my car, so the receiver works. Inserted my original key, so not the new one I got with the barrel. Left my broken barrel alone and just turned the car over with pliers. She fired straight away, after a month of sitting.

What I need to do now is rekey my new barrel, to accept the old key. At least I don't have to pay to have the car reprogrammed. Here's some pictures of the ongoing process.

New barrel.

All the pieces of my old barrel I saved.

Salvaging the tumblers from the old lock.

Hit a snag where these pins need to be hammered out, in order to slide the tumbler assembly out.

I'm currently stuck now because I don't have the correct tool. Its a 1.5mm punch I need.

If you have a 1.5mm drill just turn it over and put the flat end on the pin and hit the sharp end. It'll bugger the drill but do the job

I don't even have a drill bit that small  I ordered a punch anyway. Cost a few quid.

Screwfix on the kylemore road Dublin sell the fine punches
Checked them and B&Q. Smallest is like 2mm and thats a hair oversized.
