Appologies for the abuse of the multi quote guys. Its just that there has been so many good replies to this thread which I wonna reply to
I dont think i can ever sell my 9.
I probably keep it for another 20odd years, give it to my son once i decide to have a kid
have it dry stored locked up and just look at it
Part of me feels the same too man. If funds allowed though I'd keep the 9 and get something turbo too.
I've had a few turbo cars now, a Nissan pulsar 4wd same engine as the SX200. There good solid engines I had mine tuned to 280bhp using stock turbo/engine. Then I had a Subaru WRX STI V3 that was modified before it was imported I just had it retuned and set up. Don't know full spec but it was run 362bhp 310lb. Both cars were nice to drive powerfull but not as half fun to drive as the 9. They were to fast for our roads, I kept seeing 100mph far to offen. As for that power though the rear wheels not for me it's bad enough though the 4wd systems.
Thats the thing dude. I'm used to cornering fast in the ek9,but with rwd turbo, (I can only speculate) I'm guessing you won't be able to corner as fast as you could in an ek9?
What were running costs like on the sx when it was running to that spec? Did you use it daily?
Running the risk of going offtopic here but I think it would be more work to turbo your 9 AND get it as reliable as a K20 N/A. And these days no cutting in your chassis is required anymore for a K20 swap
Hmm dyou think? I know k20 is getting more popular over here in the uk, but I always thought it would be easier to turbo (low power build say 250whp on stock internals)?
Have you ever though about a S2000 or NSX?
Not really a fan of the s2000...like the nsx though, just never considered one mate.
ive been thinking about moving to evo 6 : (
Whats making you want to move on to an evo over a 9 man?
yeah the dc5 is a great car dont get me wrong but just didnt feel as raw or planted as a 9, hard to explain cause most people say im mad for taking a step back down from a dc5 to a 9 again but for me was the right choice and have no regrets
(apart from maybe the extra k20 power
) but for me the combination of an ek9 chassis with k20 power would be the ultimate winner forget bout scoobs and evos
Man the k20 strikes again lol. I need to maybe look into this option
I've got a B18 in mine, the car feels a lot better now power to weight. I would look more towards an engine swap. But saying that if you want a turbo there good fun, cheaper to tune up. You only live once I'm on my 16th car now
If I keep the 9, it will be deffinately getting stroked
I'd love to FI it even, but insurance would kill me
16th car
Very well said.
Its what you want not what we want. My bro has an EVO 5 with about 310BHP(ish) and its a brilliant car. Can keep up with him to about 90MPH then the thing is off haha! Its fast! Handles well looks great, The experience on the other hand isnt what tickles my fancy right now.
Its not how fast your going its how your getting there remember. You do what you feels right for you at the time. YOu can always go back if the choice isnt for you.
Hey Dan, I hear what your saying. Its my decision at the end of the day, but I'm always up for getting other peoples views
I guess you can't beat actuality though....i.e. its better of me going to test drive some other cars to see what I think hey lol.
Funilly enough a starbo came into the mix, but after the experience of honda handling, I'm not sure I could go back (chassis would need some serious work to get upto ek9 handling)
Just wana point out the B18 gave me a whole new interest in the EK9. The B16B was fun but it wouldnt have been long before i got bored. Now i kid you not there is practically nothing that can out accelerate me to 80MPH so around town its pretty king. God knows why its such a sprinter but it just is.
And just generally so much more fun FOR ME. You might not be the same. But remember what other car i own, and still find my little 9 such a nice powerful car.
Confusion is the worst thing as its always on your head what step to take. If you like the 9 that much, try it stroked. Might be what your looking for.
Reading things like this makes me want to just keep it and stroke it/do a b18c swop even more man
I find it seriously fun to drive at the mo, it just needs to be slightly faster imo.
Took the words right out of my mouth....confusion is a killah. Why the hell did my rx7 mates have to go and influence me
lol
Have you thoght about a dc2? a real good balance ofdifferent things, good power, great handling, pleanty of space and easy run!
I like the 96 spec jdms Derek, but still prefer the ek9 over them tbh
I think cars like civics/integras should be enjoyed to the fullest before moving on , then theres no regret or dissapointment.
x2...man
My RX7 handled amazingly, literally for a RWD that has 356 HP, nothing could touch it on the streets! I raped the likes of E46 M3's/ VXR's/ Supra's/ bla dee bla.
I had 265's (Goodyear Pilot Sport 2's) on rear, which helped stick to the ground.
Running costs are OK, not too great, if you buy a good example, tuned by a reputable company, with low miles on the rebuild there OK, servicing can be done yourself. Its just so addicting to drive it HARD, the sound of a single turbo rotor engine, phewwww (Something else BRO).
Running costs comparing to a EK9 are double fuel wise. Just find a well look aftered one, test drive a RX7, let me know what you think
I kinda wish i could own my EK9 and my previous RX7, funds don't allow
yO kaks,
My mates who own them said the same. They eat pretty much anything on the road.
I'm guessing you spent a small fortune on those tyres?
I could imagine it would be seriously damn hard to drive a car like that slow lol.
If I could get insured on a rex, and bought a good example, I'd only ever use it at weekends tbh.
But like you said, in an ideal world, I'd love to own both an rx7 and ek9 too.
I'm hopefully going to get a ride out in one of my friends rexes soon. So I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again peeps
