4.7 final drive help?

hi guys been reading a few threads and a lot of poeple have changed there final drive , can sombodie plz inlightern me on wht is and wht u gain ?

sorry if a sound like a dummy but i no very little bout cars i just rag the **** out of em

SEARCH. There is about a million topics on gearing and final drives. Type properly too, this isnt playschool.
 
It will basically give you shorter gears so instead top speed in 1st gear being 70 it will be 60! This will follow suit throughout all your gears! This is a very basics example look up Mfactory for full details! It will give an apparent increase in power because of the shorter ratios! 4.7 for road 4.9 for drag
 
The ratios actually stay the exact same.
 
cheers guys , like i say i no nothing about cars , thts why am asking the question on a forum. but after posting this thread av just seen m factory selling them so kinda gota idea, and 689 r its easier just to ask the question then sit for hours searching , i got replys straight away so u can take ur face for ****

This post is full of fail! First off, you have a full keyboard in front of you please use it! text talk belongs to texting! even then its bloody annoying!
As you said you've been reading alot of threads about people changing their final drive, did you never think to read up on why they did? Its not like there isn't a whole section dedicated to transmissions and even a site sponsor who supplies... wait for it..... transmission upgrades!
Your atitude is crap, who want to help someone that just rag's the **** outa they're car. i think your on the wrong forum mate this is for car enthusiasts!

Lose the attitude or I doubt you'll get a reply the next time you post a thread. There's no point in asking questions without doing some research. Then you have no opinion of your own on things and only the opinion of someone else who could know jack or who could be winding you up to take the piss out of you!

Plus this should be in the transmission section and not the engine section!

As mentioned the change in final drive reduces the top speed in each gear, increasing acceleration

It's a cheaper option than fitting a full 3/4/5 gearset, gearset imo is a better option as you maintain the length of 1st and 2nd gear for good traction off the line
