Bad news!

Hey lads I have been informed my ek9 is all repaired, painted and looking the nuts but all that is holding it up is the coachworks are still waiting on a new passenger side seatbelt being delivered from Honda! They informed me this was damaged in the crash also! I wasnt going to complain because I know how expensive those are from honda!

a pic of the new quarter on before it is painted: (it looks a sorry state here! :( )

can someone please tell me why the new quarter is black before it is painted?

thanks

i dont know m8 it is usually light green or light grey as thats the colour of the (i dont remember the name in english of that thing) but most painter put some of the cars paint in it to make it easier to the finish of the car.. now its black it means it will need more times to be passed with paint to be finished

98% of car parts come with this black primer from the factory. Plastic parts such as wings (for some companies) and bumpers come covered with white, grey, black, yellow and sometimes no primer at all, bare plastic. Now when i spray new panels i prime the entire panel (in your case white primer) so paint covers easier. Plus, your car will not be painted as you see it there with the putty exposed. We spray primer over the putty, sand again from thicker to thinner grade sand papers, and then take it to the booth.

glad to see its all just bout sorted man you must be itching by now lol

Should be good as new once you have the right guys on the job. Looking forward to finished pics:nice:

Is it easier to pick out marks if its on a black?

I know what he means; bodyshops spray a very light coating of black paint on before flatting it back to reveal any high and low spots on the bodywork when repainting to make sure everything is smooth before top-coating.

Looks like it's coming along quickly! :wow:

If you don`t mind my suggesting some things to check before driving off in your car:
a)inspect and compare gap between door and rear fender to be the same as the driver`s side

b)Make sure that the door`s, front and rear fenders` surfaces are parallel

c)Open and close the door a few times to make sure proper function ie. no difficulty opening or closing it

D)Power windows, central locking

e)Colour matches front fender and rear bumper.

Just some minor and bigger issues that might be a cause to go back to the shop if you found out later on. Also would be a good idea to check for leaks from the tail light as soon as you got home, and also ask if it would be OK to wash the painted panels right away.

And almost forgot!!! Run you hand across the whole car feeling for roughness. If that`s the case ask them to polish it! This is something that sometimes happens in shops i work too.

That is excellent advice thank you very much! I will print your list out and take with me as a check list before I leave the bodyshop! Rep added!:thanks:

When are you getting your 9 back?

I am getting the 9 back whenever they recieve and fit the new passenger seat belt from honda. Its on back order so thats why its taking so long. The door mouldings where on back order also! I am hoping monday coming though! :nerv: thanks again!:D

sorry to hear about this but its good news its getting fixed although that seems very cheap for the amount of Damage.

my estimate for very similair damage was for almost £4k, saying that i did need a new bonnet and front wing aswell.

Hope the repair is good man and remember if your not 110% happy with the repair, dont accept

:thanks: for the rep. I hope i`m not stressing you. If you trust the shop and you know they do good work, then chances are few that you find any flaws. But overspray is the worst and could happen even to the best of us. Will be waiting for pics. also i know it is too late to say, but what can really make a difference when selling the car later on is the silicon where the rear quarter meets the boot. It`s not easy to copy the machines, but a sloppy string as we call it could really be a serious flaw.

Presume with the damage being that bad a new quarter is getting welded in?

Make sure and check the seam right up the inside of the boot channels. (if this is what pateras means i think it may be the same actually)

Right next to the welds there is a string of silicone to prevent water going inside the quarter.
