how come some sir/vtis are as quick as a type r and even faster

thnks for your input dan:nice:

yeah thinking bot the b18 alot but just wana relax with the b16b for another while then plan what im gonna do:nice:
if i do go and just mild mod the b16b it will only be

decat
fidanza flywheel
js racing replica intake

ill see how i feel after the service and decide what route i want to take!
ya never know mite sell up for another ep82/91:p

My mates eg b16a2 used to keep up as his was stripped out and my ek9 has a full interior. Since I got the b18c he's not even got close to me and I find myself overtaking ep3's quite easily now too

Deffiantely a good service will help, iridium plugs and if you are willing to splash out, buy a new Dizzy ( distributor ) and this will help it get a good spark and running sweet.

I thought EK9's were 185PS (182bhp) not 185bhp? for what difference it makes, of course on Japanese premium fuel and different climate.

My civic SiR never got beat by an EK9 or DC2 once! I was really happy with that car. Only had bolts on too but fully stripped :)

I wouldnt bother with expensive spark plugs, make no difference. Just go for the standard ones and change them regularly, you get the same performance increase from fitting new plugs as you do from spending extra on the fancy ones. Spend the left over money on a new rotor and dizzy cap and changing the oil more often. Best way to keep the power consistent and look after your engine at the same time. You cant change the oil too often.

First night i got my car i had a go with an ek9 with similar bolt on mods and there was nothing in it..

IMO straight line between ek4 and ek9 there aint much in it at all

Throw in a few corners then EK9 hands down

serviced the car yesterday with iridium plugs and hamp oil filter and 5w 30 oil and its running a lot smoother and i havent tested it out but it seems to be that bit fresher/quicker:))

ya should of seen the state of the oil that came out of it the prick that had it befor me must of never serviced it:angry::nono::angry:

next mod is a decat as theyre only a 100euro or so! anybody know if the ones icetronix sell are as as good as any?

arent EK9s heavier? so that's 1 thing. as you said, you weren't in very good condition so thats another thing. and finally, are you sure he's not hiding some other mod in there? lol

im amazed how there not heavler with all their bars and welding and recaros but on paper there meant to be lighter than an ek sir/vti!

ya i hope theres not a b16a2 hiding in their:lol: but i very much doubt it ive never been up against another ek9 so ill see then but as i said its running an awful lot sweeter:dance:

just like to add mr cartney . an ek9 with an extra 3rd passenger :nerv: . not gona keep up now though are ya llf

my vti can sit on a few 96spec tegs! cant believe it myself and i havent got any modifications done! wouldnt buy an integra type r now if more people are smokin them... thought donegal was home to a few slow ones...

i also had a b16a2 with an induction kit and d-cat pipe n i could leave ek9's sittin, it was like nite and day times, i even raced a few ep3's with the same mods n some of the races was bravin close n other times i could beat them by at least a full car length:win:
but in sayin that my car had over 100000miles on the clock n alot of ppl seem to think vtecs go better when they have big miles!!??

I totally agree with your last statement!! smokey vtecs are best!:drive: my mate Cal on this forum had an EK4 with a B16A2 in it and it had about 100 odd k miles on it and it went likt stink!!! it would burn about a litre of oil every few days and blue smoke everywhere but it was a legendary car! we called it the evil mobeel!! lol
it ran about a 15 dead at crail and he smoked alot of "so called" faster cars in it. all it had done was skunk2 stage 1 cams (not tuned/mapped or anything or uprated springs or retainers, etc) short arm induction kit, HKS manifold, decat and skunk2 exhaust! it was a beast!

a few pics of it!

Ha ha just seen this post now, never mentioned it was you :p, you trying to say ashley is heavy oooh

But em don't facncy my chances when you get it back

couple of months back i got raced by a eg civic with a b16A2 engine with usual mods (decat, s/s exhaust, air filter etc...) also was decked to the floor. A long story short he over took me in a stupid place so i followed him an i had no probs passing him and he was really going for it. spoke to the lad after an he was not to bad an was just curious if my car was a real Ek9. now i am sure eg civics are lighter than the 9s?!

.

Sorry to break it to ues but as far as i was aware and from what i have found i think the EK9 is actualy lighter than a Std EG6 as they are around 1080kg on most the info sites i have seen and it seemed about right as when i got my car weighed with me in it and (i weigh 10st/63kg) it came to aprox 1150kg (to the nearest 10kg) with 1/2 tank of fuel and std full interior.

Am i right in sayin the EK9 is 1050kg as std?

As the torque curve btween the b16b and b16a is almost identical up to 7k rpm having any extra weight i.e passengers or a full tank will make a difference in an all out drag race.

So id say the difference in performance is down to what kind of life the car has had in the past. As a 170ps EG6 SiR2 that has been well looked after with regulare oil changes and a normal life will still retain the majoritry of its power, where as i would have thought a 185ps EK9 that has maybe had a hard life and not properly mantained to suit will most probly have lost a fair bit of performance through allround general engine wear.

Plus the fact of having old black oil, cloged up air filter and old plugs wont be helping much either! Id say renewing these will help but i wouldnt expect to see it spring back into factory shape. If it really bothers you then id advise an engine rebuild or save up and build a b18c on the side and drop it in.
