My B20B ek9 build up story

how bad did the bearings feel when you changed them?
You are advised to change gearbox oil after every trackday but a good synthetic mtf should last a bit longer, what oil do you use?

I had a bad experience with an exeedy clutch myself and after changing to OEM Honda clutch I would never use anything different on a road/trackday car:)

Hi they actually felt fine till i thoroughly washed all traces of oil out of them then gave a spin. 9/10 it is the input shaft bearing closest to the clutch that goes. Also advisable to change the large bearing on the end of the input shaft on top of 5th gear.

They do say with a plate diff (ATS) you need to change the oil about every 3000 miles.

I just use a standard mineral 80w90 GL5 as ATS service / support is virtually non existent in the EU and i can not get hold of the ATS oil they strongly recommend

Thats true the clutch housing input shaft bearing went on my DC2 so when I changed my ek9 final drive I also replaced this bearing even tho the original one felt ok it saves alot of hassle in the future

Try the Torco stuff it is only £6 a litre which imo is well worth it for a fully synthetic oil thats going to protect the gearbox parts

Please check your gears! I bet you my ek9 that you have a close gear set lol :D

I know the rpm drop's 1000 changing 4th to 5th. In 5th at 4250rpm (APEXi RSM not rev counter) i am doing 70mph (gps not speedo) and that is with 205/45/16 tyres.
I will have to do a bit more research.

Listening to the Combe vid I would agree, cant see enough of the rev counter, my MFactory set only used to drop approx 1k, my B16 was 2.5k approx, what does Matt think as he has a close set? I would have to drive it to be sure :D

How do you find the half length koyo rad? I'm running a b18 and standard rad the temp goes and stays around the 100 degrees when driving it hard. Don't know weather to get a full length or not.

let me know if you find any more of those lips!!

funny that your exedy clutch went at that point as mine did exactly the same thing and messed up the flywheel pretty bad too

IMO think more about cooling the oil, it gets really hot in these VTEC's. I know what you mean about the larger rad as the DC2's us a double size one so why don't the ek9's??

The oil gets to about 80-85 that seems ok it's just the water temp. Are you running any gauges if so what's the water temp stay at?

Dude your ride is dope as ****...you would crazy props here in America for it. LOve it man love it.:drive::clap:

Not sure on water temp but the gauge on the dash never moves.

I dropped the car down at RAW Motorsport in Southampton to get a rear cross bar and harness bars fitted :nice:.
I should be getting it back soon so i will get some pics up soon.

OK so the latest news is i collected the car from RAW Motorsport down in Southampton. I had them fit the harness bar and while they were there i had a rear cross bar welded in. It is fitted into the existing diagonal bars so could be removed if required.
I will get some pics up soon when the belts are fitted.
It now feels even more solid and rigid or is it just the placebo effect

What do you think then?
