My Milano Red EK4 Project

UPDATE

20121209_163740.jpg

Well there it is , Only a sneaking preview at the moment as I cant get the car out the trailer till next week when the car port is free.

Pretty happy with it, There are a few bits I'll will get him to redo on the rear bumper and boot but hey I'm not too fussed. Just glad to have the car back so I can get on and get this finished.

Also been keeping myself busy cleaning and re-bushing the front suspension parts so I can get them back on the car ready to go.
Got the front hubs dipped and sand blasted.

20121123_213401.jpg

Then gave them a lick of paint.

20121124_153258.jpg

Also re-bushed and painted the front control arms but forgot to get some pics of these :angry2:
Bar cleaning and painting suspension bits, I've just been spending money left, right and centre. :D

Set of OEM EK9 dampers from Belgium, So they shouldn't have been beaten to death by bad roads :p

20121209_164846.jpg

Also got a set of EK9 upper control arms fitted with Hardrace bushes and SPC adjustable ball joints, So I can get a little bit of camber adjustment.

20121209_164936.jpg

Also got one of Neil's N1 reps second hand.

20121210_193127.jpg

Finally got a set of Tegiwa red radiator hoses, Shifter bushes and a set of 262mm MG ZR160 rear calipers to go with my 282mm Legend calipers on the front.

20121209_164614.jpg

Right that's all for this week guys, Next job is to get all the rear suspension out, cleaned up, painted and bushed then whack some underseal on the car.
Thanks for reading and hopefully I'll have some better pictures by next week :nice:

I didnt recognise the title when i clicked on it on CL. but just seen it on here. Looking good.

Great build so far tom. I do love a 'strip back and start again' project.

Is that a tegiwa, toda rep manifold? If so im really eagar to see what the clearance is like on the b16a2.

UPDATE

Well another busy weekend trying to get this project finished.
Started off by building a shelter to keep the car i just off the garage then got the car out of the trailer and placed it in it's new home.

Took the chance to grab a few pictures, and properly inspect the paint work. As I said previously there are a few bits on the boot and rear bumper that need redoing but I'll do that when the cars all built up.
Overall im happy with it, It's not perfect by any means but at the end of the day it's a daily driver/track car so the paint work will see some abuse. Anyway here are the pictures you been waiting for.

Dropped the Gear linkage out, ready for the new bushes and Shifter.
20121216_132037.jpg

EK9 Shifter
20121215_184934.jpg

All bushed up, Painted with the Shifter fitted (didn't get any pictures but to confirm the EK9 shifter is shorted then the EK4 one and you do have to grind about 8mm off the sides to make it fit.)
20121216_175803.jpg

Dad has been rebuilding the front subframe.
20121215_184337.jpg

Just some of the parts that have to find their way back onto the EK.
20121215_184827.jpg

Steering rack, hoses and gearbox mount fitted.
20121216_175912.jpg

He also gave a few other bits a quick clean and a lick of paint.
20121216_175814.jpg

Will he was doing that I've been busy dropping out the rear suspension ready for cleaning and re-bushing.
Undone the anti-roll bar (after breaking the studs on the droplinks  )
20121215_184445.jpg

20121215_184518.jpg

Removed the camber arm, toe arm, RTA bolts and unclipped the handbrake and ABS cable.
20121216_124612.jpg

All of it losses, expect for the shock absorber.
20121216_130036.jpg

Used a couple of jacks to take the weight of the rear suspension as I undid the nuts holding the shocks in, Then slowly lowered the jacks down.
Wallah easy as that :p
20121216_131039.jpg

Cut the droplinks off so the roll bar could be freed and the suspension separated.
20121216_145253.jpg

Then made a start on removing everything else.
20121216_145856.jpg

Till I had this pile of bits left, ready to be taken for sand blasting.
20121216_175947.jpg

Thanks Vinny.
As I said I'm not 100% happy on the paint, You can see a few bits where they have'nt taken much care. Does make you worry abit but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and he's a family friend so if anything does go bad I'll just make him do it again and I'm sure it will be fine just me being overly picky.
Rest of it's going to plan though :nice:

UPDATE
Well Hope everybody had a good Christmas and New Years, Im back with more updates.

First off I received the rear suspension parts back from the sand blasters.
20121222_152444.jpg

Then set about removing the bushes.
20121223_101744.jpg

20121222_163604.jpg

After that I pressed in the new bushes.
20121223_102126.jpg

Gave them and the other parts a lick of paint, but the majority of the pictures will be in the next update.
20121223_121648.jpg

Also masked up the shock absorbers, ready for a clean and paint.
20121223_152356.jpg

After the first coat.
20121223_161443.jpg

Even more cleaning had to be done, On the rear calipers. (This is after a go over with the drill with wire brushes attachment and a soaking in brake cleaner)
20121229_133829.jpg

Before and after. (Yes the cleaning and lacquering the bolts and handbrake bracket took some time.)
20121230_114017.jpg

All finished and matched to the front calipers.
20121230_202158.jpg

Now the big job I did over Christmas day and Boxing day (Yes im dedicated to the cause :p) Undersealing.

Before.

20121225_163750.jpg

20121225_163858.jpg

A tin of Waxoyl and a tube of Sikaflex later. (and a fair amount of electric)
20121230_133332.jpg

20121230_133346.jpg

20121230_133353.jpg

Put the brake lines, Fuel lines, Master cylinder, Front subframe, Abs unit and wiring harness back in.
Me and dad heat wrapped the brake and fuel lines to break up the black bay a bit. (still not a 100% on the colours but most of it will be hidden.) Also re-wrapped and re-routed the wiring harness in fabric insulating tape just to give it a cleaner look.
20121230_184559.jpg

Finally tonight I did the valve clearances (A pain in the ass with out the right tool.) Luckily I had my helper giving me a hand.
Reminding me where the engine needs to go :D
20130105_163913.jpg

Thanks again more updates in the next few day.

Update

Sorry it's been so long, Computer trouble has stopped me from uploading pictures.

Started off by re-bushing the rear camber arms after deciding aftermarket arms would be a waste for now.
20130126_131254.jpg
[/IMG]

Then staying with the trend, gave it a lick of paint.
20130127_173032.jpg
[/IMG]

Carried on rebuilding the rear end, First off i put the freshly re-bushed and painted rear arms in (also did a bit of pointless stich welding round the mountings
20130125_121628.jpg
[/IMG]

Test fitted the rear subframe brace and ITR rear anti roll bar.
20130125_115851.jpg
[/IMG]

Had a slight problem where the bushes on the roll bar where knackered, So had to get creative and press some metal bushes in.
20130127_162353.jpg
[/IMG]

Finally fitted the lca, abs sensor and backing plate.
20130127_162540.jpg
[/IMG]

Then I found out I had a couple of days off, So I decided to have a go at putting my first engine in on my own :nerv:
Getting the engine measured up to the car and the jacks sorted out.
20130123_121425.jpg
[/IMG]

After a hour of slowly jacking up and a few strips of wood later i was almost there.
ff00798b-b4cf-42dc-98c3-05ead99dbd0a.jpg
[/IMG]

Just got it high enough, Ready for the engine to be inched in :nerv:
20130123_151850.jpg
[/IMG]

Got it all lined up ready for the the car to be lowered down.
20130123_152036.jpg
[/IMG]

Slowly started to lower the car, Moving the engine inline as i go. (Not the easiest job in the world when your on your own)
20130123_164243.jpg
[/IMG]
20130123_164252.jpg
[/IMG]

Bolted it up to the mounts and success one engine in, Thankfully the engine doesn't look to out of place either (well i dont think it is, but as per usual C&C welcome)
20130127_162506.jpg
[/IMG]

Dad then fabricated a battery box for the new light weight battery, Why I started to put the wiring back in. (also thanks to Bolt Bolt for supling the engine dress bolts)
20130127_162514.jpg
[/IMG]

Next job was to take the sump off so dad could weld the baffle plates in (Didn't really fancy doing it my self and risk warping the sump) and then fitted the new sump gasket.
20130127_162444.jpg
[/IMG]

Right that's pretty much up together now, Done a few other bits but haven't taken any other photos yet.
Quite happy really considering the car isn't to far from being completed now (I know it doesn't look like it :p) If the funds permit I am aiming to have it all back together and running by the middle of next month (Please dont hold me to that haha)
As per normal thanks for ready and stay tuned :nice:

My days you've done loads over xmas!

Looking really good, bet its nice to be putting stuff back on instead of taking it off! :))

You 've done a very good job there mate, though i don't really like the black bay and the red engine.. hope it turns out well..

Haha cheers Robbie. Good thing about Xmas is its a free couple of days off, once you've done all the family stuff.
It's defiantly nice but bits could still go on quicker.

Thanks Mate.
Ye the engine was painted red when the car was going to be green but obviously I changed my mind on the car colour but couldn't be bothered to repaint the engine :p
I'm sure it's going to be out again at some point in the future.

I AM IMPRESSED!

When can we see this in the flesh?

What wheels are you going for?

Thanks Ian
If i start doing some bits after work and save a bit of money I'll try my best to have it finished for the next meet.

15" Team Dynamics Pro 1.2 in black (getting a good deal on them) and then I'll refurbish the standard fan blades in Gunmetal when I've got some spare cash and use them as winter wheels.
