Well as some of you know my engine decided to loose oil pressure at the nurburgring a last month.

We finally got the car back a few weeks ago and my mate extracted the engine from it for the 4th time to take a look.

Basically the bores look ok but the crank is screwed - spun a main bearing causing damage to the crank journal and the block itself too.

With this being the 3rd time I've had an engine failure I'm not sure whether to carry on (repair the damage and get her running again), wait for a nice bare block or bottom end to pop up or just bin the whole EK9 and get something else... :(

To get it fixed I guess I'm looking at a replacement crank and some sort of machining repairs to the block (don't really like the idea of a crank regrind), a new set of main bearings (the big ends weirdly enough look great!), new bottom end gasket set, new oil pump and new head gasket...

depends on how much u like the car mate and if moneys not an issue then go for it. however i know it a hard decision as u get worried about it happening again

B18 or B16? Have you thought about a back up engine?

Hmm Id maybe try a new car, you might not like it as much, but knowing youd be able to take it out and drive it whenever without being paranoid is a nice feeling.

Kinda cars would you be looking at if you sold up?

LOL if I had the money... I'd have a couple back up K20 all motor race engines ;)

If I decided to sell up (which I'm still not sure I can bring myself to do - bloody love that car) i'd be looking at - EVO, S2000, DC5...

Hmmmm - driven one around the ring and the steering felt really removed...

LOL - S2K is high up on my list - would ideally like one with a hard top.

Im sorting out the b20 once and once only. After that it's dc5 or s2000.

...its hard to upsell when you have the best...lol. best FWD that is. Either RWD or AWD is the only path I can see if I were in your shoes.

Hi
IMO the cheapest way to get it up and running is to stick your R head on a stock B20 bottom end. Then quick re-map and your off running all for about £500. Either that or get a old reliable B16B back in her.
If you decide to sell or px as is let me know.
All the best Dunx

Get a healthy B16b back into her that hasn't been opened since it was built in the Honda factory in Japan :nice:

You could build the B18 again and then end up worrying everytime you drive it hard incase the same thing happens again :nerv:

aha wasnt trying to sell the s2, keeping it now i reckon.

I do miss my jordan, had more memorable 'events' in it, but I am glad I have the s2k now and not the jordan for one day every two weeks and a shite daily every other day.

You know my opinion mate. Selling you 9 IMO is simply not an option.

Spoke to Daz at DNR (built more b20s in the uk than anyone) and he says it's fine to regrind cranks.

quick Q - is your sump baffled or anything? could this not be caused by oil starvation? curious as you said it happend on the ring... :/

I think you should work out what went wrong and rebuild it. Never give up on anything, no matter how bad it gets you down. Have you got some good close up pictures of that bearing what failed ? I'm puzzled why a main failed. Something must not have been right from the rebuild.

He is running a moroso sump

As mentioned in his initial post it is suspected oil pump failure that caused this
