They are expensive and don't provide proper fueling.

They work well in a pinch if you can get a used (authentic) one for a good deal then they are an ideal alternative to better units which most prefer these days such as Hondata's S300, Neptune, etc.

Even crome which is free is better in this regard...however any tunable ECU is only good as the tuner itself....

I got one for cheap, genuine Spoon ECU

Yes it's good, transforms the car and makes it ALOT more driveable and fun

At least half the price of Hondata, good alternative if you already have all the breathing mods to match

Vtec is now from 5k - 9.5k and it pulls very very well ;)

i just simply use a crome chipped ecu its a free program me and my buddy kinda got the hang of. i have not had much trouble...i have also used ECtune & NEPTUNE

I have a Spoon ECU and have used it for about 13 months now...I ****ING Love it, it makes the EK9 actually enjoyable to drive.

I am selling mine soon but only to spend ALOT more money on a Hondata S300

youl probably find the People with bad opinions are those who have not owned a car with a spoon ECU installed :nice:

Interesting, was going to get an eCtune remap by Romain at ARTech very soon (he's only down the road from me) - but tempted to pick up a second hand spoon ECU after reading this thread.

Surely anything actually mapped onto your car by someone decent will provide better results than a 'plug and play' ECU? no? opinions please people!

Or you'll actually find those like myself who have owned, tested Spoon ecus over the years and have found that nothing can compare to a well tuned remapped ECU such as crome, hondata etc.

Does the Spoon ecu work? Yes.

Is it the best? Certainly not.

What is "best?" A tuner who knows how to extract the max. potential of your car without sacrificing driveability and reliability - something I feel Spoon's ecu cannot do given the outright numbers it puts out vs. the AFRs.

No i agree, its not the best thing out there, but for the Hassle free quality it has and the fact that it is half the cost if not less than a Hondata Map then its definatly a great option.

cost is the issue with me, would love to be able to afford the likes of a DTA management but i just cannot afford/justify£1000+
and bieng a student its almost impossible to raise that sort of money :(

Ive had a spoon ecu on my ek9 and i think it is a heap of **** like most of spoons stuff. But thats just me. . . .

Does anyone know what ron fuel the spoon ecus are mapped for?

Are they mapped for higher ron jap fuel? So would it perform better with higher ron or make no difference?

peak performance would be with higher ron jap fuel, yes, however thats what a knock sensor is for. if you run lower ron fuel, it'll retard as appropriate, but ideally to get the best out of it, run as high a ron fuel as possible (repeatedly, not just once).

i didnt know that :) so on this its just a cheap and easy plug and play ECU??
